Template talk:Nihongo foot

Template-protected edit request of 30 March 2020 edit

Notified: [[WP:JAPAN]]. — Goszei (talk) 19:53, 30 May 2020 (UTC)Reply

This template should have a comma separating the fields when the lead=yes parameter is enabled, like so:
Current: Japanese: デッドマンズQ Hepburn: Deddomanzu Kuesuchonzu
Proposed: Japanese: デッドマンズQ, Hepburn: Deddomanzu Kuesuchonzu
This would put it in line with the display of the parent template, Template:Nihongo. — Goszei (talk) 06:01, 30 May 2020 (UTC)Reply

UPDATE: This proposed change should also extend to the default display (i.e. without lead=yes):
Current: デッドマンズQ Deddomanzu Kuesuchonzu
Proposed: デッドマンズQ, Deddomanzu KuesuchonzuGoszei (talk) 04:01, 27 June 2020 (UTC)Reply
UPDATE: I believe this change is supported by MOS:ALTNAME: Relevant foreign-language names, such as in an article on a person who does not themselves write their name in English, are encouraged. Separate languages should be divided by semicolons, and romanizations of non-Latin scripts by commas.. — Goszei (talk) 00:00, 12 July 2020 (UTC)Reply
Not done for now: please establish a consensus for this alteration before using the {{edit semi-protected}} template. ~ Amkgp 💬 14:56, 12 July 2020 (UTC)Reply

Is there a consensus to support this request?

Support Seems pretty straightforward; definitely need a separator there. Opencooper (talk) 19:11, 5 June 2020 (UTC)Reply
Comment - This goes beyond this template as a Lua module (Module:Lang/utilities) is used for the formatting. Any decision about this needs to be made there. I recommend closing this discussion and taking it up over there. ···日本穣 · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe · Join WP Japan! 08:57, 1 July 2020 (UTC)Reply
Nah, leave the discussion here. Module talk:Lang/utilities is a redirect to Template talk:lang. If ever this discussion and the Template talk:Nihongo § Revising my "Hepburn" display proposal discussion conclude with some sort of decision that requires action, I've been considering splitting out the nihongo support from Module:Lang/utilities into Module:Nihongo.

Then I'm not sure why there needs to be a discussion for such an obvious fix. There should definitely be a separator there. ···日本穣 · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe · Join WP Japan! 17:53, 1 July 2020 (UTC)Reply

Template-protected edit request, March 28, 2024 edit

{{Nihongo foot}} creates a kerning issue with the footnote it generates when the English title is italicized, as below.

Test[a]

I'm not going to pretend to know what lines in the module control this, but thought I'd bring it to the attention of the more technically savvy. Let me know if you have any questions! TechnoSquirrel69 (sigh) 18:55, 28 March 2024 (UTC)Reply

kerns 0.09em when last text character is one of dfijkltCEFHIJKMNPR-Z'"?!].

Thanks! TechnoSquirrel69 (sigh) 23:46, 28 March 2024 (UTC)Reply
@Trappist the monk: I think there also needs to be a case for all characters when both bold and italics are applied. See below:

I guess that I disagree. Unlike your first example where the t and the adjacent [ touched, the s character in your second example does not touch the adjacent [ character.

Taking another look, this appears to be a Monobook thing. It's certainly not as bad on either of the Vectors and nonexistant on Minerva. I'll let someone else decide whether this is enough of a priority to leave the request open; I'm neutral on it. Thanks for your help! TechnoSquirrel69 (sigh) 00:57, 29 March 2024 (UTC)Reply
Deactivating as this is both apparently controversial and relatively trivial. * Pppery * it has begun... 01:21, 31 March 2024 (UTC)Reply
