Italicisation
editCan this template be modified to not italicise characters from the Egyptian Hieroglyphs Unicode block? Antiquistik (talk) 11:48, 14 February 2023 (UTC)

- Evidence that it does? In my browser, Egyptian hieroglyphs are not italicized even though the html markup is for italic style:

- Ancient Egyptian: π¨πππ
Ancient Egyptian: <i lang="egy" style="font-size: 150%;">π¨πππ</i>
- Ancient Egyptian: π¨πππ
- A small sampling of articles that use this template suggests that most uses of this template wrap some sort of Latn-script text. If that trend holds true, the default italic styling is correct. If there are browsers out there that italicize Egyptian hieroglyphs, set
|italic=no
:
- Ancient Egyptian: π¨πππ
Ancient Egyptian: <span lang="egy" style="font-style: normal; font-size: 150%;">π¨πππ</span>
- Ancient Egyptian: π¨πππ

- @Trappist the monk: It appears italicised to me in my browser. Although I can work with
|italics=no
for now, provided that it doesn't de-italicise the transliterations of the hieroglyphic texts. Antiquistik (talk) 20:14, 19 February 2023 (UTC)
