Hello again, everyone! As some of you may be aware, the Church postponed this temple's open house and dedication due to the ongoing COVID-19 crisis. So the open house will not be starting in a couple of weeks, and the dedication of this temple will not occur next month. The delay is in effect until large-scale gatherings are once again deemed to be safe. While I recognize the good faith efforts of ChristensenMJ in reverting my addition of this information to this template, since my attempt to do so had messed up the syntax and layout, at the same time, it ought to be acknowledged on this template in some way. Would it be possible to enable a new status on templates such as this that could be entitled "Construction Completed"? If that can be done, then an accompanying reference could then be included without messing up the template again. Thoughts? --Jgstokes (talk) 05:15, 7 April 2020 (UTC)Reply
- Hello Jgstokes. The template structure used by the LDS temple articles is Byzantine. I've edited this template to get rid of errors it was causing when combined with the {{LDS Temple status2}} template. Looks like the status parameter can't contain a reference link, otherwise the undefined reference ends up being injected into the article causing an error in the transcluding article. Whoever designed the template structure here didn't provide a usable facility for adding references like you're requesting. I think it would be beneficial to do so, but it would be a pretty substantial undertaking. -- Mikeblas (talk) 17:06, 14 June 2020 (UTC)Reply
- Mikeblas: Thanks for weighing in here. In my 14 years of experience editing Wikipedia, my OG focus was solely on articles about the Church, but when it comes to editing templates, I'm still very much a novice. I know that changes I attempted to make in the template as a result of this postponement had been reverted recently due to the reasoning you laid out so eloquently in your comment here, and that's not problematic. That said, I believe that since starting this topic 2 months ago, changes made to the article and the template have been sufficient to satisfy my concerns.
- And in the interim, the scheduling of the dedication for the Winnipeg Manitoba Temple changed things for this temple anyways, since a temple with a delayed dedication at a TBD date is clearly behind another that has a dedication formally scheduled. Aside from the template problem having been resolved, for the information of those reading my comment here, based on what I've heard on my end (as a Latter-day Saint blogger who has done some research on COVID-19 conditions impacting the Church in some areas), it appears likely that the dedication of this temple might possibly be deferred until the early months of next year, since Brazil's peak date for COVID-19 keeps getting pushed further into the future generally, which in turn is impacting Rio de Janeiro particularly. And it now appears as though the Rio de Janeiro temple is not the only one in the queue of temples which have been or are under construction that have had their progress towards completion disrupted by COVID-19. Just some additional observations, FWIW. Thanks again, Mikeblas. I appreciate you weighing in here.
