Various changes
I have:
- Added a new "Precious metal alloys" section.
- Added rhodium, electrum, rose gold, white gold and jet.
- Copied all relevant entries (jasper, peridot, sunstone, tiger's eye and tourmaline) across from Template:Gems & Crystals (which I believe to be defunct, and have recommended for deletion).
- Added this template to most of the pages that it links to.
- Removed aragonite, which in my opinion is not a common jewellery material.
- Alphabetised lists.

I have also removed the "Other parts" section, which included "Bail", "Lobster clasp" and "Pendant". This is for two reasons. Firstly, the template is meant to be about jewellery materials, and not jewellery as a whole. Secondly, the three items were extremely arbitrary, and not representative of jewellery as a whole. If the section was to be properly expanded, it would become so large as to swamp the rest of the template, and render it useless. Hyperdeath (talk) 15:04, 29 March 2008 (UTC)
Preventing The Same Problem We Had Before
I should note that the reason this template was originally called "common" jewelry materials is because the existing connections included things like wood and glass. What I really meant to say by "common" was "precious jewelry materials common to societies that manufacture and value jewelry on a large scale". I just want to make sure this list is concise enough to fit my original need: trying to find out different kinds of stones that I could find in my local jewelry store. Platinum Sterling
I added Platinum sterling to the template, and it appears on the template and on the Platinum sterling page but doesn't appear to appear (!) on any others. Have I done done something wrong? Tommfuller (talk) 20:41, 11 February 2009 (UTC)
- This often happens, and I don't think there's anything you can do to avoid it. The servers don't automatically check for template updates when delivering a page, and instead rely on a cached version of the complete page. Eventually the changes will percolate through the system, and Platinum sterling will appear on all the templates. — Hyperdeath(Talk) 23:28, 11 February 2009 (UTC)
- Thanks for that, I thought it must be something like that but thought I could force it to refresh....but couldn't! Cheers. Tommfuller (talk) 06:25, 12 February 2009 (UTC)
New template
As part of WikiProject Metalworking's template overhaul, I have created a new {{Jewellery}} navbox that merges and cleans up the old {{Jewellery Materials}} and {{Metalworking - Jewellery making}} navboxes. Let me know what you think about this, as I will be replacing the old templates soon. Bryancpark (talk) 14:21, 28 July 2009 (UTC)
