Operas vs. Operas and Musical Dramas
editI have chosen to expand the title of the Opera Section. Works like the Flood, L'Histoire du Soldat, Persephone, etc. (apologies for any spelling errors), while dramatic in their content, are not really Operas per se. More importantly, Stravinsky did not describe many of these works as Operas. So, rather than splitting the content of this category in two, I have chosen to rename it "Operas and Musical Dramas." It makes sense to me, at least.--Ber06122 (talk) 20:31, 9 March 2011 (UTC)
Order?
editIs there any rational basis to the order in which works appear in each section?
For example, Ballet has:
- Agon, Apollo, Jeu de cartes, Le baiser de la fée, Les noces, Petrushka, Pulcinella, Orpheus, Scènes de ballet, The Firebird, The Rite of Spring.
That's not alphabetical and it's not chronological. Neither is it in descending order from most to least significant. Is it just random? Can we make it better, please? -- Jack of Oz [pleasantries] 19:24, 29 July 2015 (UTC)
- I think it was User:Drbogdan who placed them this way in January this year. -- Michael Bednarek (talk) 11:03, 30 July 2015 (UTC)
- @JackofOz and Michael Bednarek: Thank you for your comments - no problem whatsoever - Yes - seems I may have tried to alphabetize the items - and make the listed items easier to access - better ways of sorting the items would be preferred of course - in any case - Enjoy! :) Drbogdan (talk) 13:54, 30 July 2015 (UTC)
- Ah, the penny drops. I see it is alphabetical after all, except that you're not suppressing the definite and indefinite articles. Normally, in English, any title that starts "A Thing ..." or "The Thing ..." is sorted as "Thing ..., A" or "Thing ..., The". This also applies to titles in foreign languages that have articles, such as the French "La ...", "Le ...", "L'...", "Les ...", "Un ..." and "Une ...". I'll make the correction. Thanks for responding so quickly. -- Jack of Oz [pleasantries] 20:53, 30 July 2015 (UTC)
