completewhois.com edit

I know it's a template widely used, but completewhois.com doesn't work any more - perhaps it should be removed? x42bn6 Talk Mess 19:03, 16 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

traceroute link broken edit

{{editprotected}} The "traceroute" link is broken. It appears that the line that reads as follows:

--> • [http://www.dnsstuff.com/tools/tracert.ch?ip={{{1|127.0.0.1}}} traceroute]<!--

Needs to be modified to instead read as:

--> • [http://www.dnsstuff.com/tools/tracert/?tool_id=68&ip={{{1|127.0.0.1}}} traceroute] <!--

It also appears that the RDNS link is also broken. I'm not sure the correct fix for that one. --- Barek (talkcontribs) - 19:48, 22 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

  Fixed the traceroute. If you can fix the other one it would be great. — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 20:49, 22 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

{{editprotected}} The line with a problem:

urlencode edit

{{editprotected}} Hi. Please use urlencode {{urlencode:{{{1|127.0.0.1}}}}} for mentions of {{{1|127.0.0.1}}} or {{{1|}}} in all URLs that work with usernames (or all URLs to be safe) to avoid problems with usernames that have spaces (like mine) and other disallowed characters. It is only used in some now. Thanks!   — Jeff G. ツ 20:12, 21 June 2010 (UTC)Reply

toolbar edit

Please update this template to use this version of the sandbox. This uses {{toolbar}} to normalise the output with all the other user templates. Thank you. Frietjes (talk) 23:52, 26 September 2011 (UTC)Reply

IPV6 update edit

Update is needed as some tools dont work for IPV6. -- A Certain White Cat chi? 03:19, 9 June 2012 (UTC)

  Done but I notice this template has two 11's, is this on purpose? One of them seems to be crossed out so I assume so. But still, should it be 12 and 13 instead of 11 and 12? Soap 16:11, 10 June 2012 (UTC)Reply

Dead and broken external links edit

Most of the external links in this template no longer work or no longer work as previously intended. I'd like to make a pass at this template and update it with useful, mostly internal links (to labs for example for the whois lookup). I'd be grateful to anyone that wanted to comment on this or suggest possible replacement tools to use for these links. Thanks. — {{U|Technical 13}} (etc) 17:41, 17 April 2015 (UTC)Reply

Pages where template include size is exceeded edit

I have identified some 50+ pages in this category which use this template extensively (there may be more).

For example Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Spam/2008 Archive Mar 4

I have made some simple changes to the template in the sandbox. The key one is replacing {{Toolbar}} with an, arguably simpler, explicit list. (The separator is followed by a zero-width space which should improve formatting too).

This change is enough to fix the "template include size is exceeded" at least for the example page.

To see this copy the page https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/User:Rich_Farmbrough/IP_summary/test_cases to Template:IP summary/test cases. It should render with no error (preview works for me, but I'm not allowed to save the page).

Request to update documentation edit

I just updated the documentation to reflect the current links in the template. Since I don't know what each link does, could someone else please help to update the documentation? Thanks! GoingBatty (talk) 02:46, 30 August 2015 (UTC)Reply

Please use HTTPS for the WMF Labs, Robtex, Google, and Project HoneyPot links edit

A number of the external links in the template support HTTPS. Using HTTPS for these links would provide increased privacy and security for users. Specifically, the following changes are requested:

  • Both instances of http://tools.wmflabs.org/ should be changed to https://tools.wmflabs.org/ instead
  • Both instances of http://www.robtex.com/ should be changed to https://www.robtex.com/ instead
  • Both instances of http://www.google.com/ should be changed to https://www.google.com/ instead
  • Both instances of [//tools.wmflabs.org/ (note the leading left bracket) should be changed to [https://tools.wmflabs.org/ instead
  • http://www.projecthoneypot.org/ should be changed to https://www.projecthoneypot.org/ instead

Template-protected edit request on 20 May 2017 edit

Change the WHOIS link to use tools.wmflabs.org, as has recently been done for Template:Anontools (used on all IP contribs and talk pages).

dnsstuff.com WHOIS, RDNS, tracert links broken edit

The dnsstuff.com tools have moved to the tools.dnsstuff.com subdomain with a new URL schema.

Current URLs:

https://www.dnsstuff.com/tools/whois/?tool_id=66&ip=127.0.0.1
https://www.dnsstuff.com/tools/ptr.ch?ip=127.0.0.1
https://www.dnsstuff.com/tools/tracert/?tool_id=68&ip=127.0.0.1

New URLs appear to be:

https://tools.dnsstuff.com/#whois|type=ipv4&&value=127.0.0.1
https://tools.dnsstuff.com/#reverseDns|type=ipv4&&value=127.0.0.1
https://tools.dnsstuff.com/#dnsTiming|type=ipv4&&value=127.0.0.1&&recordType=A

I'm not familiar with the old dnsstuff.com tools therefore can't tell if functionality has changed. --Chrki (talk) 14:27, 3 August 2019 (UTC)Reply
