Template talk:IPA-grc/Archive 1

This template was hardly redundant. The phonology of grc, gkm and el are completely different. Well, perhaps not gkm and el, but certainly grc and el. Why would these separate phonologies need to be combined in a single template with lots of complicated template syntax? On the same grounds, we could conflate all "IPA-xxx" templates in a single one. This might actually make sense btw, depending on what you think the point of these templates is to begin with. What certainly does not make sense is beginning to randomly merge certain templates.

I have now made this call {{IPA-el|{{{1|}}}|a}} It could also have been {{IPA-el|{{{1|}}}|anc}}. Presently, "anc" means that a string identifying grc as "Ancient Greek" is inserted automatically. "a" means that the phonetic data is simply marked up as "grc" (not "el"):

  • {{IPA-el|a|a}} gives Greek pronunciation: [a]
  • {{IPA-el|a|anc}} gives Greek pronunciation: [a]
  • {{IPA-grc|a}} gives Greek pronunciation: [a]
