Extra link to homepage edit

I have removed the second link because it violates Wikipedia:External links, which discourages links to

Sites that are only indirectly related to the article's subject: the link should be directly related to the subject of the article. A general site that has information about a variety of subjects should usually not be linked to from an article on a more specific subject.

What is more, readers which are interested in the contents of http://eliteprospects.com/, in addition to the information specifically about the subject of the Wikipedia article from the first link (e.g. http://www.eliteprospects.com/player.php?player=2092&lang=en) can easily reach it by clicking on the "HOME" link there. So the second link also violates the 4th and 5th of the "[[Wikipedia:External links#Important points to remember|]]" (namely, that the number of external links should be kept to a minimum and that one should avoid separate links to multiple pages in the same website).

Similarly, for example, we do not link to http://www.imdb.com/ in every movie article, only the subpage of imdb.com about that movie. See Template:Imdb name.

Unfortunately it is also standard to link the publisher of sources. Look at almost every other external link template. It is standard to link the publisher of the source. The above quote is more for just linking random links into an article. The reasoning for not linking to imdb in every article is that we do not have to because we have a page for it, however if there was no page for that site it would default to a link to the imdb.com website. Also please note that WP:EL is a guideline and not a policy. As such all external links templates used by the hockey project follow this set way of being set up, not to mention a number of other projects. Please seek concensus to change before making another revert as concensus is currently to have it linked as can be seen by the other hockey external link templates. -Djsasso (talk) 15:11, 27 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

Is there anyway to setup up something for a team link as well as player links? edit

That's my question Krazytea(talk) 03:51, 24 April 2012 (UTC)Reply

Not with this template. We could create a second template to do that probably. But I don't know that we would want individual teams linked to from a biography since that would change regularly and can already be reached by using the link to the players bio on the site. Unless you meant it to be used on season pages I suppose. -DJSasso (talk) 11:34, 24 April 2012 (UTC)Reply
