Meanings edit

Added some new meanings (incorporating the old ones also) in accordance with information from "The Book of Runes" by Ralph Blum (ISBN 1-85906-042-0), with primary meanings bolded and alternatives normal. The Talking Toaster (talk) 18:13, 26 July 2011 (UTC)Reply

I have commented on this at Talk:Elder Futhark#Book of Runes. - SudoGhost 18:42, 26 July 2011 (UTC)Reply
Sorry, I just assumed with the author's academic background that his "re-imagining" was accurate to the original meanings. However, this is clearly not the case. My bad. The Talking Toaster (talk) 19:07, 26 July 2011 (UTC)Reply
Not a problem. The person that bought me the book thought the same thing; so did I until I started reading it (and became very confused in the process). If I remember correctly, the author does have some kind of academic background (Russian literature or Russian history, I believe), but his books are about divination of various kinds, not historical accuracy. See Ralph Blum for more information. Apparently The Book of Runes drew heavily on then-current books describing the ancient I Ching divination system of China. I didn't know that, but it reinforces what I said here. Not exactly historically accurate Futhark. - SudoGhost 19:27, 26 July 2011 (UTC)Reply

Ingwaz Variant edit

This has been brought up on the talk pages of both Elder Futhark and Runes, where this template is used, but the ᛝ rune does not seem to appear in any Elder Futhark sources, only ᛜ (or it's slightly tilted variant). As such the inclusion of the ᛝ rune on this table seems misleading. Can anyone provide a source for why it should be included in a table of Elder Futhark runes? --CoreGoon (talk) 09:42, 16 January 2022 (UTC)Reply
