2020 Woreda administrative reorganisation

edit

User:Rastakwere had been making changes based off a self-published pre-print document from Jan Nyssen. One of the images in the document was this one File:Administrative boundaries at woreda (district) level, as implemented in January 2020.jpg which lists the new Tigray woredas. There is not too much further text in Nyssen's document explaining the "2020 Woreda administrative reorganisation", and no "text" listing the new woredas (only the text in the image), and I haven't been able to locate any other source showing this list or anything about a 2020 reorganization. My gut tells me that the reorganization probably did happen, but we can't use this image as a "source" for making these changes in Wikipedia. But I did want to mention it here because at some point in the future we may well get that confirmation (or Nyssen gets his document published), and then we can use the list. I also mention it here because we're dealing with a half-done job by Rastakwere where some of the old woreda articles were edited, some not, some new ones created, and other new ones not yet created. It's a bit of a mess right now.

Per the document: "In the early 1990s an administrative division of Tigray was established, comprising about 60 woredas or districts. ... In the late 1990s, Tigray’s woredas were regrouped into 35 larger woredas. These have been operational for about 20 years. ... Tigray was re-organised into 88 woredas in January 2020, basically along the lines of the 1991 woredas to which 21 independent urban administrations were added (Map 2)."

So what we're looking for is confirmation that there are 88 woredas and 21 independents — we want their names and which zone each one is in. Platonk (talk) 18:15, 21 December 2021 (UTC)Reply
