I was in the process of writing this comment when the Template was moved:

• I have been avoiding this DYK Nomination because I do not enjoy being a killjoy. I hate to be the bearer of bad news but the pedantic fact is that the source (Darwin's original note No. 354) makes no mention of Darwin catching it himself. From what we know of the expedition (Captain Fitzroy's account pg 100) it was most likely caught by another member of the crew. Also 'hook and line' is only explicitly mentioned for Percophis brasiliensis (note No. 347); subsequent entries, including that of Pinguipes fasciatus (the synonym for Pinguipes brasilianus), simply say "Habitat same as last". Agreed. I read somewhere that there was a storm and the ship was laid-to in a sheltered bay, so all the crew started fishing to improve their food supply, resulting in Darwin being able to examine a number of species before they were eaten. Cwmhiraeth (talk) 05:09, 9 August 2018 (UTC)
