Full names in the template

edit

The TDs first names have been removed from the template to "tidy it" but: 1. A good many new and unfamiliar names have been elected (hooray) and having the first names helps someone to identify them in the template. 2. The template defaults to collapsed mode, and does not occupy a big footprint. 3. We are fortunate that we don't need to save space; thrift is not a motivation here. 4. Most importantly, having a full name is simply more reader-friendly. I suggest restoring the full names. What do you think? — O'Dea (talk) 16:42, 27 February 2011 (UTC)Reply

I disagree, I think its more reader friendly without first names. That said, I'll go along with any consensus that emerges. Snappy (talk) 16:51, 27 February 2011 (UTC)Reply
I agree with Snappy. In Dail proceedings, the TDs are identified as "Deputy Surname", so that usage will be familiar to anyone following proceedings ... and in the template, adding the firstnames creates unnecessary visual bulk. I know that template is usually collapsed, but not all readers use a big screen, and anything bigger will scroll more on small displays.
Yes, there are a lot of new TDs, but if readers want to identify unfamiliar names they can use the link at the top to the full list of TDs.
I disagree generally about the template's bulk. I don't approve of using navboxes to group more than about 60 articles, and this one is too big even as is. I nominated it for deletion in 2009, when the consensus was to keep it, but if its bulk is to be increased further I will nominate it again for deletion. --BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs) 22:28, 1 March 2011 (UTC)Reply
I think the template should be deleted, it is unnecessary and unneeded and I certainly don't want it. The list is far better and gives their full names and constituencies. Dmcq (talk) 16:29, 11 March 2011 (UTC)Reply
The list is fine but having a template on each TDs article means you can easily navigate to each TD in the 31st Dail. Snappy (talk) 18:17, 11 March 2011 (UTC)Reply
