1987 alias

Oops, sorry Andrwsc. The new image should be OK anyway, according to Mike.lifeguard, the problem was specific to the old one which was derived from an image from vector-images.com. Amalthea 21:59, 1 June 2009 (UTC)

1996 to 2009 version

This needs to be updated with the version from 1996 to 2009. Currently that flag is only used in Olympic articles, but it needs to be used for other contexts as well. -LtNOWIS (talk) 07:44, 3 August 2012 (UTC)

The template has to have five aliases.

• "1897", to yield the 1897–1936, 1941–1974 version (the country was occupied by Italy in 1936–1941)
• "1975", to yield the 1975–1987 version
• "1987", to yield the 1987–1991 version
• "1991", to yield the 1991–1996 version
• "1996", to yield the 1996–2009 version

There is also the 1975–1987 state flag, which could also be made capable of being produced. See Flag of Ethiopia. I request the template be edited accordingly. --Theurgist (talk) 07:49, 11 August 2012 (UTC)

Flag variant 1996 to 2009 correct?

The artile Flag of Ethiopia states that the current version of the Flag of Ethiopia dates back to 31 October 1996. This is supported by the cited Proclamation No. 48/1996 – A Proclamation to amend the Flag and Emblem Proclamation. The article states that the flag variant dubbed Flag of Ethiopia (1996-2009).svg was only in use between February and October 1996 rather than 1996-2009. If this were true, the filename should be renamed to Flag of Ethiopia 1996.svg to avoid improper use. CroesJ (talk) 20:30, 7 November 2013 (UTC)

If so, you will need to make a request on Commons:File:Flag of Ethiopia (1996-2009).svg I'm afraid as that image is not held on this Wikipedia. (But it would be good to get some agreement from other editors first, because the description of that file seems to disagree with what you are saying.) • Note: I'm not going to make this change as the flags don't quite look the same to me. There seems to be a lower level of detail (albeit on a larger .svg image) and I don't feel comfortable changing this without knowing exactly what the flag looked like during that time frame. Partially  completed. Military (armed forces) link and flag aliases have been added and the naval flag has been updated. Always hesitate to delete things in country data templates. Some other flag templates somewhere always break when things are deleted. So the navy flag alias remains intact. P.I. Ellsworth , ed. ^{put'er there} 07:45, 28 October 2023 (UTC)
