Relation to Template:Cite album-notes

Hi, just wondering if this template (which seems to be under construction) is not redundant with already existing Template:Cite album-notes? – IbLeo (talk) 07:16, 17 May 2008 (UTC)

I just noticed this and came to ask the same thing. Pagrashtak 15:44, 15 September 2008 (UTC)
Gee, I forgot completely about this. I went directly to the source and just requested a comment from the creator of this template over at his talk page. – IbLeo (talk) 17:18, 15 September 2008 (UTC)

Sorry guys, I forgot about this likewise. The idea was to have a replacement for {{cite album-notes}} that can distinguish between release types and format the titles accordingly, albums going into italics and singles into quotes. Field names are also styled more closely to other common music templates, like our infoboxes for releases and artists (though I've also considered lowercasing them for more consistency between citation templates). I will resume work on this by implementing the language field IbLeo requested at Template talk:Cite album-notes, along with a few examples and then we could see if this would be a worthwhile pursuit by replacing a few instances of the old template and wait for feedback. – Cyrus XIII (talk) 18:46, 15 September 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for your quick reply. So, I understand you aim building a sort of next-generation {{cite album-notes}}. I certainly like the ideas you list above (especially the language thing ;-), however, I just wonder why you create a new template rather than improving the existing one, thus letting the articles that already use it take advantage of the improvements? – IbLeo (talk) 19:09, 15 September 2008 (UTC)
Yeah, if this is intended to be an improvement of Cite album-notes, it would be best to change that template instead. Pagrashtak 19:13, 15 September 2008 (UTC)
Just to clarify: I am not categorically refusing this template. I realize there might be some compatibility issues. I also know how hard it can be to get the community to agree on improvements to an existing template (e.g. my request for a language parameter on {{cite album-notes}}). So I am willing to test this template once the improvements mentioned above are ready. My question was out of pure curiosity. – IbLeo (talk) 16:42, 16 September 2008 (UTC)

The language field is in. Sorry for the delay, the time I can muster for Wikipedia these days is limited at best. – Cyrus XIII (talk) 10:49, 28 November 2008 (UTC)

Brilliant! I tried it out on the article I wanted to use the language option for in the first place, and it comes out splendid: What a Lemon, footnote 9. The formatting is a real improvement over {{cite album-notes}}. Thank you. – IbLeo (talk) 22:36, 28 November 2008 (UTC)

Template died?

This template seems to have died. All I see now is a footnote that says "Release notes for What a Lemon" with no author, online link, etc. Any clues how to fix? Davidatwikip (talk) 18:59, 28 July 2009 (UTC)

On 24 July someone changed all the parameters to lowercase without bothering to reflect this change in all the articles already using the template. I have reverted this edit for now. Supposedly the editor in question will come back and sort it out. – IbLeo (talk) 05:37, 29 July 2009 (UTC)
Thanks Leo! Davidatwikip (talk) 17:26, 29 July 2009 (UTC)
Parameters are supposed to be all lowercase as per MOS guidelines, so I updated the template. To fix the articles in which it is used, I made a bot request to change them all, but so far no action has been taken. –Dream out loud (talk) 01:39, 30 July 2009 (UTC)
As I already mentioned, I don't contest the update, only the short-term consequences. And I couldn't guess that you made a bot request as you didn't make any note of it here. Anyway, the question is, how do we move forward? It's 5 days ago you did your bot request, so God knows when someone will take action on it. And I don't think the template should be changed before it is absolutely clear when the articles using it will be updated accordingly. Are you sure you don't want to do the updates by hand? 40 articles - it shouldn't be that long... – IbLeo (talk) 07:41, 30 July 2009 (UTC)

I just performed an audit on the parameters of the 62 articles currently using this template (using AWB). I corrected the 5 where the parameters weren't capitalized. Honestly, I don't think it's worth the hassle to change the parameters to lowercase; I can't really see what values it would bring, and many honorable templates have capitalized parameters, e.g. {{Infobox album}}. Furthermore, I can't even find the MOS mentioned by Dream out loud above. – IbLeo (talk) 20:05, 10 September 2009 (UTC)

Merge?

It looks like there was a movement to merge this with {{cite album-notes}}. What happened? ---- CharlesGillingham (talk) 06:09, 10 August 2009 (UTC)

Well.... nothing :-) – IbLeo(talk) 18:40, 27 April 2010 (UTC)

Removing Musicbrainz parameter

6 months ago the MusikBrainz parameter (MBID) was removed from {{Cite album-notes}}, this template's sister (or mother?). See this discussion on its talk page. For coherence reasons the same should be done here. Unless someone disagrees in the next couple of days, I will remove it. – IbLeo(talk) 19:37, 27 April 2010 (UTC)

Doing.... 1st step is to remove the parameter in existing instances of the template. 2nd step is to remove the parameter from the template itself. – IbLeo(talk) 18:53, 6 May 2010 (UTC)
Step 1 completed. – IbLeo(talk) 19:19, 6 May 2010 (UTC)
Done. Step 2 completed, the template no longer supports the MBID parameter. The documentation has been updated accordingly. Let me know if you note any problems. – IbLeo(talk) 19:37, 6 May 2010 (UTC)
