Template talk:Archive/Archive 1

Archive 1 Archive 2 Archive 3

I'm currently using talk page which should work on all spaces perfectly but I'm interested in knowing if this will work everywhere and if this is the most efficent way to link to an archive page's talk page since this would require pulling up the link every time a user loaded the page. This is a sister template to Template:Talkarchive. This specific template is designed for use on page archives, the major difference between this and the talk archive tag is that this jas a talk page link and it is phrased slightly differently. Jtkiefer T | @ | C ----- 04:57, August 1, 2005 (UTC)

Fixed Talk page.

Talk page was talk page I changed it to talk page And I tested it and on the template page it takes me here. --Actown 06:47, 5 November 2005 (UTC)

Category.Archived ?

I think this template as well as Template:Talkarchive should be placed into a category such as Archive, Archived, or Archives, thereby allowing a quick check using Recentchangeslinked of any clueless edits or vandalism done to any archived pages (barring template removal/blanking). Example: Uncyclopedia:Special:Recentchangeslinked/Category:Archives Splarka (rant) 05:07, 23 March 2006 (UTC)

Ah, there we go. Check out the newly created subcategories in Category:Wikipedia history. They're organized by ARTICLESPACE (for Archive) or TALKNAMESPACE (for Talkarchive). ~MDD4696 04:29, 20 May 2006 (UTC)

Colour

Could we use a better colour?

Subpages

When the template is used on a subpage, the talk page is attached to the BASEPAGENAME. Should TALKPAGENAME not be used instead? --Caorongjin (talk) 21:35, 11 June 2019 (UTC)

Text changes

The merged template currently has the following texts:

 • For talk spaces: This page is an archive of past discussions. Do not edit the contents of this page. If you wish to start a new discussion or revive an old one, please do so on the current talk page.
 • For talk spaces: This page is an archive. Do not edit the contents of this page. Please direct any additional comments to the current talk page.

I would propose changing this to

 • For talk spaces: This page is an archive of past discussions. Do not edit the contents of this page. If you wish to start a new discussion or revive an old one, please do so on the current talk page.
 • For talk spaces: This page is an archive of past discussions. Do not edit the contents of this page. If you wish to start a new discussion or revive an old one, please do so on the current discussion page.

The only difference between the namespaces are then that we don't refer to talk pages at all when it's not on a talk page. and that instead of linking to the talk page it links to the parent page (non-subpage or whatever you would call it). This also adds a period parameter for non-talk archives. --Trialpears (talk) 22:10, 29 July 2020 (UTC)

Merge direction

Izno the consensus was to merge to Archive, right? And it says to Talkarchive because that was the way I put it in the nom before the discussion made it clear Archive should be the final title? --Trialpears (talk) 21:53, 29 July 2020 (UTC)

Trialpears I can see how you are reading that archive would be the better title. I have no concern over making the final page name archive. --Izno (talk) 22:35, 29 July 2020 (UTC)
Following up on this, perhaps this template should be redirected to Automatic archive navigator, a similar template which additional supports a navigation bar for previous and later archive pages, so that many archives take advantage of this. --Matthiaspaul (talk) 18:39, 17 September 2020 (UTC)
Matthiaspaul, That proposal was closed as no consensus a few weeks ago at Wikipedia:Templates for discussion/Log/2020 August 24#Template:Automatic archive navigator. It is one of those TfDs I may try again on in a year or so with some extra preparations with regards to the implementation so I wouldn't consider it completly dead. --Trialpears (talk) 19:02, 17 September 2020 (UTC)
Thanks for the pointer, I missed that discussion. Technically, it is possible, and the benefit would be huge for the majority of archive pages, so it should be done eventually.
