The code that automates this:
- "If the male of a couple is given without the female, then a blank will be inserted as a placeholder for the female; and likewise, for a missing male, when only the female is given. This is to keep the tree properly lined up, having the correct indentation."
might well be a good place to look for the bug mentioned in the same section:
- "Note: There seems to be a bug in the underlying software, and the link from subject to mother breaks the tree graphic when there are more than about 6 generations (something to do with the flat number of entries, rather than the depth in generations)."
