A sample can be taken from an audio file using an audio editing program. The editor should be used to reduce the sample's length in seconds such that it lasts no more than 10 percent of the length of the original song, up to a maximum of 30 seconds. Such tools can also be used to reduce the bit rate so that the sample quality does not compete with commercially available versions of the work.
