- Date, length, sourcing all check out fine. No plagiarism/close paraphrasing that I can find. Image is appropriate and article is clear and well-written. A couple of things though: I'm not sure I really understand the hook, which says that X. pyriforme "resembles" a woody pear. The article doesn't actually say this; it says that it's "commonly known as the woody pear". Could you please clarify this? Also, it would be helpful if we could have a source for the translation of the Latin name at the end of the first para. Prioryman (talk) 07:09, 16 August 2011 (UTC)
- There is a mention of the hook towards the end of the article. The hook is dull though ("Fruit looks like fruit") and would need imperial conversion added. The image is a little indistinct as a thumbnail and isn't used in the article itself. Yomanganitalk 09:13, 16 August 2011 (UTC)
- I have a couple of suggestions for alternative hooks based on material I've just added to the article:
- ALT1: ... that Xylomelum pyriforme is one of a number of Australian species that require fire to open and disperse their seeds?
- ALT2: ... that early European settlers of Australia used the wood of Xylomelum pyriforme to make gun stocks?
- Either seem to me more "hooky" than the original proposal. Any thoughts? By the way, I see that a source has been added for the Latin name, so that issue is now resolved. Prioryman (talk) 12:00, 16 August 2011 (UTC)
- ALT2 I like, ALT1 is fairly generic. Yes it is frustrating finding a good photo. These plants are not uncommon around Sydney but someone keeps stealing all the goddam seed pods :/ I will double check my old photos again....Casliber (talk · contribs) 13:05, 16 August 2011 (UTC)

- Naw, just spend a couple of hours rummaging round my hard drives and checking flickr. Can't be bothered, but I did find photos of Xylomelum occidentale, so I might expand that instead and come up with some other hook...or maybe not. Casliber (talk · contribs) 15:01, 16 August 2011 (UTC)
