Article passes for size and date (on move to mainspace). Referencing is of a good level for a scientific article and I'll trust you on the off-line sources. For a layman, this article was pretty heavy going (some of the design section is actually quite humorous from that perspective)!
I'm unsure about the hook though, it's pretty hard to understand what's going on without prior knowledge of the basic concept of the waffle-iron filter. Can you think of an alternative one about the filters' usage in diplexers at earth stations? Call me superficial, but I think technical articles can always interest more people when there's a bit of space communication involved! SFB 23:15, 5 November 2011 (UTC)

The current hook is interesting because it is pretty wierd to pass bits of food or whatever through the inside of a piece of electronics. If DYK want to use something else that is fine with me, but imo hooks of the form "equipment X is used in application Y" are not intrinsically interesting. Building such a hook around a space application because space is interesting is not going to showcase the new article (which DYK is meant to do) but rather drive links to satellite or earth station instead. The hook I really wanted was something like "waffle-iron filters are not for making waffles but are used in food processing" but I could not find a source that directly gave a food example. I still dream of discovering that they are used on the Bird's Eye Potato Wafffles production line. Spinning Spark 07:53, 6 November 2011 (UTC)
