U.S. Route 27 in Michigan edit

Article passed GA review on 11 November, easily long enough, hook is cited to The Michigan Daily. However, the hook contains information not in the sources specified. There is no mention of the term "Michigan State Highway Department" in the source, or the town "Lansing", and General Motors are given as only one firm proposing a bid (others are Westinghouse, Bendix and RCA). Suggest ALT1... that in 1961, General Motors put in a bid for the world's first electronic highway along U.S. Route 27 near Ann Arbor, Michigan?Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 10:11, 15 November 2013 (UTC)- @Ritchie333: US 27 is nowhere near Ann Arbor, so your suggested hook is factually false. (US 23 runs through that city.) However, the source cited does support the original hook if you read the text of the article. It says, "General Motors is bidding from Michigan" and further down, it states: "The State Highway Department is also considering as tentative routes Interstate 75 from Detroit to Toledo, US-131 south from Kalamazoo, US-127 south from Jackson and US-27 south from Lansing." (emphasis added). That means both GM and the MSHD were involved in the bid, and the subject of this nomination was in that consideration. Imzadi 1979 → 10:36, 15 November 2013 (UTC)
- Also, please note, the source article comes from The Michigan Daily, the student newspaper at the University of Michigan, which has its main campus in Ann Arbor, so it only makes sense that they gave primary billing to the portions of the GM-MSHD bid to a highway that runs through that city. - Article has been nominated within 5 days of receiving GA approval; long enough, well-referenced. No close paraphrasing seen. QPQ done. Regarding the hook and Imzadi1979's quoting of the ref, the ref says US 27 from below Lansing, not south of Lansing. What do you think about changing the hook text to "near Lansing, Michigan"? - @Yoninah: No. "Below" on a map is synonymous with "south", so the originally nominated wording is fine. The word "near" removes the directional reference, which is unfortunate because US 27 previously ran north of Lansing as well, so the suggested change alters the meaning.
