Takahiro Nishikawa
- ... that former Dreams Come True band member Takahiro Nishikawa holds regular events themed around the band at his Sapporo bar? Source: multiple sources in the article
Created by Nihonjoe (talk). Self-nominated at 22:47, 27 September 2023 (UTC). Post-promotion hook changes for this nom will be logged at Template talk:Did you know nominations/Takahiro Nishikawa; consider watching this nomination, if it is successful, until the hook appears on the Main Page.
- Interesting hook. No plagiarism concerns and also the hook is cited well along with the article. Toadboy123 (talk) 13:39, 29 September 2023 (UTC)

- Unpromoted for questions about the hook at WP:BLP sourcing. See Special:Diff/1179785549 for details. Regarding the sourcing, I think it would be best if somebody who can read the references in the original Japanese and is also familiar with our WP:BLP requirements could verify the sourcing. RoySmith (talk) 12:33, 12 October 2023 (UTC)
- @RoySmith: I can read Japanese and I'm very familiar with WP:BLP, and all of the sources used verify the information they are used for. I've never had anyone question previous DYKs I've done for Japanese topics. Why are you questioning it now? What happened to WP:AGF? There are multiple sources in the article that verify this hook, so I didn't include all of them here since you can simply view them right in the article. As for an alt hook, how about one of these? All are well sourced in the article.
- ALT1 ... that former Dreams Come True band member Takahiro Nishikawa opened a bar in Sapporo in 2009 after he left the band?
- ALT2 ... that former Dreams Come True band member Takahiro Nishikawa opened a bar in Sapporo in 2009 after he served time in prison on a drug conviction? (I'd prefer not to use this one as it's rather negative and about a living person, though it's well sourced)
- ALT3 ... that former Dreams Come True band member Takahiro Nishikawa has a younger sister who is a model?
- If you have any other ideas for a hook, feel free to propose them. ···日本穣 · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe · Join WP Japan! 13:59, 12 October 2023 (UTC)
- I know that you can read the sources (and thank you for providing the english translations in the references). But given the subject matter, I think we still need another person to review them in the original before we can say we've performed our due diligence. RoySmith (talk) 15:09, 12 October 2023 (UTC)
- @RoySmith: Sure, if someone wants to do that, great. But why the hell is that suddenly a requirement here? It's never been one before, and I've submitted quite a few Japanese-related articles with a ton of Japanese-language resources for DYK in the past and never had a problem (none of them were rejected). Foreign language sources are 100% acceptable, and your refusing to accept them without someone else reviewing them does not assume good faith toward my efforts. Who made you the ultimate arbiter of acceptable sources? I made sure to not give the negative items in the article undue weight, and I presented them with very neutral wording. Additionally, those negative items have absolutely zero to do with the initial hook or two of the alts. Sorry if I sound a bit peeved, but I am. I've never run into this kind of problem in the past with any article I've worked on, so having you question my honesty regarding the article sources is a bit irritating, to say the least. You're treating me as if I'm some newb who doesn't have nearly 20 years' experience working here on Wikipedia. ···日本穣 · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe · Join WP Japan! 18:03, 12 October 2023 (UTC)
- I understand what you're saying. I'm not questioning your honesty, and I can't speak for what has happened to previous reviews. But we're talking about a public figure being accused of multiple felonies. It's important that we get it right. I'm also not putting myself up as the "ultimate arbiter of acceptable sources". If somebody else feels comfortable approving this, that's their call. RoySmith (talk) 21:25, 12 October 2023 (UTC)
- He wasn't just accused. He was convicted twice, which is clearly stated in the sources used. I've even added more refs. The article doesn't dwell on that, however, and 90% of the article is about everything but that. ···日本穣 · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe · Join WP Japan! 00:02, 13 October 2023 (UTC)

@RoySmith and Nihonjoe: I just checked the sources for the ALT1 hook. [1] is from a gossip magazine, so I'd treat that one with care. However [6] from Tokyo Sports is fine. It's one of Japan's leading sports newspapers, and we used them as a source for the FAC article Yuzuru Hanyu Olympic seasons as well. Here is the relevant paragraph with an English translation:
- Original: "西川は2002年のドリカム脱退後もDJとして活動中。度重なる不祥事もあったが、09年には地元・北海道の札幌でDJバーをオープン。いまだ〝ドリカム愛〟はアツい。"
- Translation: "Since leaving Dreams Come True in 2002, Nishikawa has been active as a DJ. There were multiple scandals, however, in 2009 he opened a DJ bar in his hometown Sapporo, Hokkaido. Dreams Come True is still a hot topic."
Note: I would maybe adjust the hook like this:
- ALT1b ... that former Dreams Come True band member Takahiro Nishikawa opened a bar in his hometown Sapporo in 2009 seven years after he left the band?
What do you think about this solution? If the article requires a more detailed reference check, I'm happy to help. Henni147 (talk) 12:44, 1 November 2023 (UTC)
- @Henni147: I'm fine with ALT1b (I added the "b" to differentiate it from the original ALT1 hook). I can work on finding replacement refs for Matomedia, though that can be done after all of this since this doesn't require that ref. I've removed it as a ref for anything that had other sources. This will make it easier to know which refs need to be replaced. Thanks! ···日本穣 · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe · Join WP Japan! 23:01, 2 November 2023 (UTC)
- Henni147 is the review complete? If so, can you follow the instructions at WP:DYKRI and add a signed {{subst:DYKtick}} to this review? ~~ AirshipJungleman29 (talk) 16:17, 10 November 2023 (UTC)
