Palace of Tranquil Longevity edit
... that the Qianlong emperor's elegant retirement retreat, the Palace of Tranquil Longevity, is currently undergoing an $18 million international restoration project that has uncovered some of the only surviving examples of 18th century Chinese interior design?

The article is long enough, fairly new, well written, and has some great references. The submission was a bit late (10 days after the article was moved to main space), but I think it's worth relaxing the rule a little for a nice article like this. The hook and a few paragraphs did not have inline refs, but I was able to find the info in the refs elsewhere and added them to the relevant places. There are a couple of relatively minor issues: the second paragraph of the "Background" section is not referenced; and the word "unearthed" in the hook does not seem accurate: "uncovered" might be better here. --Zanhe (talk) 18:56, 11 May 2012 (UTC)

- Hello there, I've corrected some of the issues raised, including citing the uncited paragraph, changing the DYK hook to "uncovered" as per Zanhe's suggestion, and removing the "folk artisans" and Western "experts" part; which wasn't intended as Orientalist, merely intended to reflect what the news sources said about this unique partnership; still, when in doubt, leave it out! At 258 characters, the hook is well above the 200 character maximum set for DYK nominations. Even with IAR, that maximum cannot be avoided. I suggesting coming up with an alternate hook (or two) that drop either details about the restoration project, or that drop what it has uncovered (the interior design clause). An example of the former would be to start with "that a restoration project at the Qianlong emperor's". For DYK, shorter is better. BlueMoonset (talk) 06:36, 14 May 2012 (UTC)

- No special easy way that I know of. I copy/paste the displayed version of the hook from "that" through "?" into Microsoft Word, and use its "word count" function to tell me the number of characters including spaces; that's the number to go for. The initial three periods and a space don't count, but all other visible characters do. BlueMoonset (talk) 07:04, 14 May 2012 (UTC)

ALT 2: ... that the Qianlong emperor ordered the Palace of Tranquil Longevity built for his retirement villa and took the title Retired Emperor to avoid breaking his grandfather's record as the longest ruling emperor of China?- (ALT 2 is 217 characters; anyone know how to shorten it?)

- I personally like ALT 1, ALT 2b is okay, but the wording makes the emphasis on the retirement, not the palace. Sven Manguard Wha? 04:52, 15 May 2012 (UTC)

- What we need is a reviewer who wasn't involved in constructing the new hooks, preferably Zanhe as original reviewer, to sign off on ALT1 and/or ALT2b (if only ALT1, then only ALT1 is approved and should be the only one that can be picked up). - BTW, I also like ALT1 best. It might be able to be passed based on Zanhe's earlier review, since the facts are identical, just fewer. ALT2b would definitely require a new review, as it has previously unreviewed facts in it. BlueMoonset (talk) 23:21, 15 May 2012 (UTC)
