Office of Public Works

  • ... that Ireland's Office of Public Works took over the functions of the Barrack Board, the Commissioners of Public Buildings and the Directors-General of Inland Navigation in 1831? Source: McParland, Edward (1995). "The Office of the Surveyor General in Ireland in the Eighteenth Century". Architectural History. 38: 91–101. "The Commissioners ... buildings and repairs ... in any .. forts, fortifications, palaces, or other public buildings in Ireland, and of all bills, charges, and expences ... furniture or maintenance .. castle of Dublin, or any other of .. palaces or houses in .. kingdom of Ireland."
The Public Works (Ireland) Act, 1831: " expedient to transfer to such Commissioners the Duties now performed by various Public Boards, capable of being consolidated with Advantage to the Public Service" and "considered to be to all intents and purposes in the place of such directors ... inland navigation".

  • Comment: Tested with DYK Check (passes, counting in the bulleted points), and will be further expanding. 5x is a high bar, and this is over the target 7 days by a little, but I hope for flexibility. I will look over the Office's broad work history for alt hooks, and submit a QPQ - done, sorry for delay. Will add 1-2 more ALT hook also, as that one is, I can see, not ideal.

5x expanded by SeoR (talk). Self-nominated at 23:31, 22 August 2021 (UTC).

General eligibility:

Policy: Article is sourced, neutral, and free of copyright problems
Hook: Hook has been verified by provided inline citation
QPQ: Done.

Overall: I'm sorry that your nomination does not fit the rules for eligibility. I'm not exactly sure if you'd prefer doing this in the future but working on improving an article in your sandbox and then adding your edits to the main article might ensure that the 5x expansion is achieved within 7 days, as I see that you've been editing the article quite heavily over the past two weeks. On the other hand, since the article is already rated B and you are the main author (per https://xtools.wmflabs.org/articleinfo/en.wikipedia.org/Office%20of%20Public%20Works) I heavily recommend you consider taking the article to GA status and then renominating the hook. --A. Thanks A._C._Santacruz, I'd sort-of expected this - I was too long on the case (the 5x was really reached on day 9, not day 7, I see), and then I was rushing a bit. I'll take the advice re. GA, once I can set aside a chunk of time. SeoR (talk) 21:36, 27 August 2021 (UTC)
Great to hear SeoR! Your work on the article so far is already commendable, in any case :) --A. C. Santacruz Talk 21:40, 27 August 2021 (UTC)
Thanks - it was enjoyable, and needed, anyway. I was partway through when I had the thought about DYK, so next time, I will try drafting changes in the sandbox, indeed. Now to pre-run a few more reviews. SeoR (talk) 21:45, 27 August 2021 (UTC)
