Newmarket Citizens' Band

edit

Created by Mindmatrix (talk). Self nominated at 17:54, 30 September 2013 (UTC).

  • ALT1: ... that Newmarket Citizens' Band was created because its founding members thought it was a "disgrace to the inhabitants of Newmarket" to use bands from nearby villages for the town's festive occasions?

The article is new enough (two days old when nominated), long enough, has no content or editorial problems, and reliable sources are used and cited. Both hooks are appropriately cited, and although the source is offline, the article creator is a well-respected admin and the references are accepted in good faith. I lean towards using the alternate hook, as it is a little more unusual. --Skeezix1000 (talk) 13:37, 15 October 2013 (UTC)

  • Thanks. Note that although the Carter reference is offline, the source used by Carter (for ALT1) is the document of which a scanned copy is included in the article (see File:Newmarket Citizens' Band 1872 subscription petition.jpg). If you enlarge it, you can read verbatim the text in the quotation as quoted in Stories of Newmarket: An Old Ontario Town. Mindmatrix 15:43, 15 October 2013 (UTC)
