Factuality

Naranag, Jammu and Kashmir edit

Created/expanded by Mehrajmir13 (talk). Self nom at 05:09, 5 July 2012 (UTC)

  • Is there a reason why this nomination is so late? The article was created 3 weeks before it was nominated. --Orlady (talk) 01:04, 6 July 2012 (UTC)
  • Ah, I believe we can allow some leeway for contributors who are new to DYK, particularly when the write about topics outside the "same old" usual range. :-)
I tried to verify the hook fact against the sources cited in the book, but I did not succeed. This webpage mentions Naranag in connection with trekking, but it does not say that it serves as a base camp. I tried to search inside this online book for references to "Naranag", but I found nothing. The hook fact needs to be verifiable via reliable sources (not necessarily online sources). --Orlady (talk) 04:43, 6 July 2012 (UTC)
  • The fact is that the motorable road ends at Naranag, as one can confirm through the references given; from there it starts trekking. Therefore it naturally serves as base camp.  MehrajMir ' (Talk) 05:19, 6 July 2012 (UTC)
  • Well, it looks to me like the article creator discovered DYK and went back to nominate several relatively recent articles. In this particular case, the article sources do not support the hook fact. (It is not sufficient to provide sources that a person could study in order to infer that the statement in the article is probably true.) Also, there is some content in the short article that is uncited, including the second paragraph under "tourism" and the assertion that the temple "has the typical Aryan structure as was present in Aryan Kashmir." If this were a sparklingly good nomination, I'd be inclined to accept it in spite of the date, but it needs a lot of work... --Orlady (talk) 21:04, 6 July 2012 (UTC)
  • I have added 2 references to the unreferenced sections. If the word “base camp“ needs to be removed, remove it with an alternate like resting place or starting place for trekking.... or if the hook still not qualifies, again no problem.. I‘ll take care of nominating an article for DYK within 5 days of its creation. Regarding the assertions made by my dear friend BlueMoonset, we should only point out the mistakes of the user and guide him how he may improve, but not to discourage him.  MehrajMir ' (Talk) 03:50, 7 July 2012 (UTC)
  • Thank you for the citations. I continue to see concerns about this nomination. The hook fact is still a problem. Several of the modern sources about trekking in Naranag are blogs, which are not considered reliable sources for articles are DYK. It's clear that trekking occurs there, and it is at one end of a trekking route, but no one says that it is a base camp or even a "base" for trekking. This page surprised me, as it says there are no hotels or restaurants in Naranag -- directly contradicting the article. From this blog, I infer that hotels might exist there, but the blog describes renting a room in Naranag (not a hotel room).
All things considered, I am not comfortable that any of the facts about tourism or trekking are well enough sourced for use at DYK. That led me to look for another hook. The temple could be a good topic for a hook, Unfortunately, I find that the part of the article that describes the temple contains several sentences that were copied directly from the sources. This is not acceptable in the encyclopedia -- content needs to be written in the contributor's own words.
