Numerous issues
Mani Square edit
- ... that Mani Square has a total area of more than 7,10,000 sq. feet (0.71 million)?

The article meets the minimum length criterion now, but only because it includes nonencyclopedic information -- such as the operating hours of the food court, as well as some superfluous verbiage -- such as the sentence clause that says "....including ... to name a few" (it is redundant to say "to name a few" after saying "including"). Also, the sources are not strong: they including advertisements, other web pages produced by the subject of the article, and an online review site where anyone can post content. Importantly, I could not find the hook fact in the online source cited for that sentence in the article.
- For this large and modern mall, I would expect that there have been some newspaper or magazine articles that describe it and that could be cited in the article. Additional content and additional sources are needed to make this suitable for DYK. --Orlady (talk) 05:44, 30 January 2012 (UTC)
- How can this be that a website doesn't have any advertising banners? I mean you can do it without putting a banner, but most of the people nowadays do. - The issue is not the fact that the webpages have advertising, but rather that the content of the webpages appears to have been created for purposes of promotion by the mall operator or an affiliate of the mall operator, or else by anonymous internet users. In general, websites like yellowpages and kolkatamalls.com are not considered to be reliable sources. As currently written, this article is a collection of disconnected sentences reciting individual facts, including some facts that most people would consider nonencyclopedic trivia. That is not the appropriate structure for an encyclopedia article. Also, trivia is not appropriate content for Wikipedia. The new references did provide reliably sourced support for some information, as well as adding additional information, but their inclusion actually increased the disconnectedness of the article. Also, a few facts still are not supported by sources. Additionally, I think that some sources might have been misinterpreted. In particular, the statements at the end of the article about Mani's "recent" announcements of new developments are based on news articles published several years ago, around or the time that Mani Square opened, or even earlier. Are these announcements truly about the future?
There is enough information available about this mall to write an adequate article, but it needs a coherent structure. After looking at several other articles about shopping centers around the world, I suggest the following type of structure (or some variation on this):
- Lead section - This could be very short. For example: "Mani Square is a shopping mall in Kolkata, India, with over 250 shops. It opened in 2008." It should be a separate paragraph. This paragraph should summarize information that is in the body of the article (for example, the number of shops and the date it opened should be provided again in the article body).
- Location and physical description. This could be a single paragraph, including the address that is in the article now, plus a description of what part of Kolkata it is in, details about how much land the project occupies, and a basic description of the mall (4 floors, 710,000 square feet, size of the car park, number of escalators, etc.).
- History. First, tell about the original development of Mani Square. For example answer these kinds of questions: Who (or what company) built it? When was the project first announced? What was the land used for previously? When did the mall open? Who were the major investors in the development? Who was the architect? What business or businesses were the first to open? You probably do not have answers to all of these questions, but some of these topics are covered in the sources. Next, tell about changes that have occurred since the mall opened. Has the mall been expanded? Have any of the original anchor stores closed down? Have new shops been added? (In some of the news articles, I think I read that an IMAX cinema was opened in the mall, but it is now closed. This is something that could be included in this section, if you have the same sources.)
- Current operations. This is a place to say how many stores are in the mall, list the stores and restaurants, tell about the number of customers, tell about the entertainments on the entertainment floor, etc.
- At the end of the article, tell about future plans for the mall, other projects done by the Mani Group as spin-offs from this mall.
This article has the potential to be much better, with restructuring and careful attention to sourcing. --Orlady (talk) 15:56, 12 February 2012 (UTC)
