Kaschlan

The Kaschlan, the commanding card
The Kaschlan, the commanding card
  • ... that the card game of Kaschlan, named after its top trump, the Queen of Diamonds (pictured), gave rise to the Prussian idiom "my stomach's playing Kaschlan with my bowels" meaning "my tummy's rumbling"? I am finding the hook confusing. Kaschlan is named after castellan, which, reading the text, refers to the top card. It's not named after the QH, right? Also, while it does appear to have given rise to the idioms, I'm not clear why? Was there something about the gameplay that is somehow related to being hungry or old? It appears something is being lost in translation. Suggest keeping it simple:
ALT1: ... that the card game of Kaschlan, named after its trump, became so popular it was used in the Prussian idiom "my stomach's playing Kaschlan with my bowels"?

Same ref would apply. Maury Markowitz (talk) 21:54, 2 December 2019 (UTC)

Moved to mainspace within right time frame. Article looks good. Locked source will AGF. Hook interesting. Kingsif (talk) 01:00, 22 December 2019 (UTC)
  • @Kingsif: Review done. @Maury Markowitz: the top card was called the Kaschlan and gave the game its name. The word itself is the German equivalent of kasztelan, the Polish word for 'castellan'. I'll see if I can clarify this in the text. If we go with ALT1, it needs to say "top trump" as there are other trumps in the game. Bermicourt (talk) 09:34, 29 December 2019 (UTC)
  • QPQ done. But the majority of paragraphs on the page are uncited. Yoninah (talk) 15:23, 29 December 2019 (UTC)
  • Yes they are cited. The opening line of the "Rules" section is: "The game is like a simple variant of multi-player, cut-throat Durak. The following rules are based on Illig." The sentence is followed by the reference. The Variants section was not cited, but I've corrected that. Bermicourt (talk) 16:34, 29 December 2019 (UTC)
  • @Bermicourt: OK. What about the line Historically it is recorded that the game was also played with a 52-card pack.? Yoninah (talk) 21:07, 29 December 2019 (UTC)
  • @Yoninah: that's done - it's recorded in Mitteilungen (1916). Bermicourt (talk) 22:25, 29 December 2019 (UTC)
  • Thank you. Restoring tick per Kingsif's review. Yoninah (talk) 22:36, 29 December 2019 (UTC)
