KVEA

Improved to Good Article status by Sammi Brie (talk). Self-nominated at 06:54, 23 July 2021 (UTC).

  • General eligibility:
Policy: Article is sourced, neutral, and free of copyright problems

Hook eligibility:

  • Cited: No - ALT1 needs source
  • Interesting: Yes
  • Other problems: No - ALT0 should use the actual name of the show (La piñata de los $25,000), not a translation thereof.
QPQ: Done.

Overall: Fine rewrite. The fleshing out of KVEA's early history was especially welcome. However, I wish more of the history of KVEA's news division had been preserved, especially regarding Eduardo Quezada, who was a major figure in Southern California Spanish language media through the early 2000s. If this issue, as well as the other ones regarding the ALTs, are remedied, then I think we'll be good to go! —CurryTime7-24 (talk) 21:31, 24 July 2021 (UTC)

@CurryTime7-24: Thanks a lot for the feedback. The Quezada move from KMEX to KVEA was a big deal, and I've been able to add some references and a bit about that. It's a good reminder that there might be some notable talent in Hispanic media that we just don't have articles on due to systemic bias/language issues. A lot of the news department material post-2001 struck me as "comings and goings of anchors", but clearly that one is worth a mention. ALT1 comes from [1] and the Wall Street Journal article. Also wrote an ALT0a with original title of the show. Sammi Brie (she/her • tc) 23:50, 24 July 2021 (UTC)
Great job, Sammi Brie. Thank you for taking the time to tweak this splendid rewrite. As somebody who grew up watching KVEA, I'm looking forward to your DYK! —CurryTime7-24 (talk) 21:20, 25 July 2021 (UTC)
CurryTime7-24, is there anything else tweaked by the rewrite that is worth restoration? I'm always open to your feedback. Sammi Brie (she/her • tc) 21:27, 25 July 2021 (UTC)
It's hard for me to say only because at this point it depends on one's personal tastes. From a DYK perspective your rewrite more than satisfies all the necessary prerequisites. There was some interesting history with some of the local shows that KVEA produced, the most notable being a short-lived Sabado Gigante clone starring a gent whose surname, I think, was Ziegler. I also seem to recall that Telemundo for a time was the racier alternative to the more family-friendly Univisión (I remember shows like the Benny Hill-esque Las gatitas de Porcel, which was definitely pushing the envelope in the late 1980s), but these are all things that go beyond the scope of just KVEA. As it stands, however, your article is superb and I really can't think of anything that needs to be added. :) —CurryTime7-24 (talk) 22:23, 25 July 2021 (UTC)
