  • Comment: Note on timing: The article was taken live (moved from sandbox) on 27 March 2020, so this nomination is within the 7-day window. I delayed nominating this while I searched NIH websites for a larger image, but ran out of time before I found one.

  • New and long enough, within policy, Earwig detects no copyvios, QPQ done, hooks check out, ALT1 preferred. Good to go! John P. Sadowski (NIOSH) (talk) 04:08, 7 April 2020 (UTC)
  • Returning ALT1 from prep since it is over 200 char and discussion at the nominator's talk page has not reached a satisfactory conclusion. Yoninah (talk) 14:35, 16 April 2020 (UTC)
  • @Cwmhiraeth: Please restore this to prep with the approved hook that you moved to prep a few days ago. @Yoninah: Please stop unilaterally messing with hooks after they've been approved and are in prep. This is the second time you've altered one of my hooks, and the second time that doing so has caused problems that you've left for other people to fix. If you have concerns about a hook, the appropriate time to address those is during the nomination process, before a hook is moved into prep. If there's a serious issue with something in prep, bring it to Wikipedia talk:Did you know so people can discuss it. As far as I'm concerned, your behavior - while probably well intentioned - is disruptive and a net harm. The Squirrel Conspiracy (talk) 22:04, 16 April 2020 (UTC)
  • Huh?
  • If you have concerns about a hook, the appropriate time to address those is during the nomination process, before a hook is moved into prep. Since when? You have a reviewer, they approve it. You have a promoter, they promote it. When exactly am I supposed to get involved? Do you expect me to get involved with the 200 other approved hooks before they're promoted? When any hook gets to the prep sets, many more eyes are on it. If I hadn't noticed it was over 200 characters and not meeting the criteria in WP:DYK#Format, then someone else would have.
  • If there's a serious issue with something in prep, bring it to Wikipedia talk:Did you know so people can discuss it. I thought I was doing you a favor by alerting you on your talk page and discussing my suggested changes there. OK, next time I'll bring it to WT:DYK and let everyone else discuss it. @Yoninah: Sorry for snapping at you. The Squirrel Conspiracy (talk) 03:34, 17 April 2020 (UTC)
@The Squirrel Conspiracy and Yoninah: ALT1 comes in just under 200 characters when you omit the ellipsis and the (pictured), as specified at WP:DYKHOOK. The phrasing is a little awkward and could be improved, but it is within the rules. John P. Sadowski (NIOSH) (talk) 02:10, 17 April 2020 (UTC)
Maybe the following would be better? John P. Sadowski (NIOSH) (talk) 02:21, 17 April 2020 (UTC)
@John P. Sadowski (NIOSH): As worded, ALT1b is probably incorrect. Alpha-1 was tremendously under-diagnosed at the time. It's not that only 5,000 people had it, it's that only 5,000 people had been diagnosed with it, which is part of why he founded the organizations. How about one of:
  • ALT1c: ... that John W. Walsh founded several non-profits around alpha-1 antitrypsin deficiency, a condition that less than 5,000 people had been diagnosed with at the time that he discovered that he had it? (196 chars, including spaces)
  • ALT1d: ... that John W. Walsh founded several non-profits around alpha-1 antitrypsin deficiency, a condition that less than 5,000 people had been diagnosed with when he discovered he had it? (179 chars, including spaces)
The Squirrel Conspiracy (talk) 04:17, 17 April 2020 (UTC)
  • Thank you, ALT1d is the best wording. Restoring tick per Cwmhiraeth's review. Yoninah (talk) 20:12, 19 April 2020 (UTC)
