High Roller (Stratosphere) edit
- ... that High Roller (pictured) was a roller coaster atop the Stratosphere Las Vegas, the tallest observation tower in the United States?

- Comment: This was 5x expanded. The DYK word count tool does not properly register this because it erroneously counts the hatnote in the earlier draft before expansion.

Still has a bit farther to go with expansion. By a manual check, the initial version was 144 words and the current version is 596 words, it needs over 700 words to technically be 5x (that is after subtracting out the 22 words in the hatnote). The hook fact about the tower being the tallest in the US should also not be sourced to the Stratosphere website, is there a neutral 3rd party reference? Otherwise okay as far as date and paraphrasing. The image license looks okay (would like to have some form of metadata on it, but no obvious duplicates with Google images). I added an additional reference to the section you mention that supports the hook. Regarding article length, however, don't we count article size on characters, not words? I don't see # of words mentioned anywhere in the DYK rules. I've expanded it from 681 characters (including spaces) to 3521 characters (including spaces). This is over 5x by my count. - Thanks for the very quick reply. I noticed that I did misleadingly refer to the "DYK word count tool" in my initial statement, but this was more out of habit because I use the word count tool in Microsoft Word quite frequently (it also counts characters). I just assumed that if 1,500 characters were the "new article" requirement, that characters would be be used for the "5x expansion" requirement as well. - According to DYKcheck, this has not yet at a 5x expansion. Prior to the recent expansion, which began on either July 29 or July 30, your choice, there were 842 prose characters. A 5x expansion would require 4210 prose characters, but the article currently has only 3521 prose characters, slightly over 4x. (The rules talk about prose characters, and that's what DYKcheck measures. Words are not the criterion.) BlueMoonset (talk) 04:00, 5 August 2012 (UTC)
- Please see above where I note above that the DYKcheck is not correct. It incorrectly counts a hatnote in the earlier draft because it was not formatted using a template. You have to do the check manually. Best, IronGargoyle (talk) 13:44, 5 August 2012 (UTC)
- The hatnote had 161 characters, so article actually started out at 681 characters of prose with spaces. It falls within 5x expansion after subtracting the hatnote. If need be, it should not be too hard to add 1-2 extra sentences. Froggerlaura ribbit 21:43, 5 August 2012 (UTC)
- My apologies. Hatnotes should not be included; it was because it wasn't formatted as a proper hatnote that DYKcheck counted it earlier. I didn't notice the discrepancy, and this is the sort of exception that does need to be taken into account. IronGargoyle's count was exactly right, when the hatnote is excluded.
