• New enough, long enough, neutrally written, well referenced, no close paraphrasing seen. However, several paragraphs lack at least one citation, per Rule D2. Hook ref verified and cited inline. I tweaked the hooks, and like the shorter, snappier ALT1. No QPQ needed for nominator with less than 5 DYK credits. Yoninah (talk) 23:10, 21 February 2017 (UTC)

• @Fowler&fowler: Sorry for the delay. I read through the article again and have two comments. First, the lead should not be cluttered with citations if the material is also cited in the main text. Second, the extensive quoting of non-free sources should be avoided. If you want to quote a few lines, fine, but not long blockquotes. Yoninah (talk) 22:18, 11 March 2017 (UTC)

• @Yoninah: I've now removed the block quotes, reduced all quotes substantially, except one by Reiner, which I have reduced only partially, because of its historical importance (sort of like a fair-use image of historical importance). I've also removed multiple cites in the lead, but I've left one for each sentence, because many people do not understand that the lead is a summary of sourced material in the rest of the article. • @Fowler&fowler: Thank you. Per WP:LEADCITE, sentences in the lead should not be cited if they repeat information in the body of the article and if they do not describe anything controversial. Therefore I would like to ask you to remove these cites from the lead. Regarding the blockquotes, I see you cut them down – thank you. Anything that is longer than 2–3 lines, though, should be put in a blockquote. Thank you for taking care of this. Yoninah (talk) 15:48, 19 March 2017 (UTC)

• Fowler&fowler Thank you very much for all your work on this article. It's now ready to nominate for GA! :) Both hooks are verified and cited inline. We may want to use the original hook for those who know that January 30, 1948 was the day of the assassination, but I'll leave that to the prep promoter. Good to go.
