  • Hello FunkyCanute! I saw this nomination and became interested simply because it is about an All Black. I see that the nom has been sitting here for some time now. That might be since it is a bit unclear why it has been nominated. Checking the dates (created July 14) and nominated within seven days (July 20), I assume that it was nominated as a new article, only you forgot to mention that in the nomination. It has since gone on to become a GA, which also makes it eligible for a nomination. If you could just confirm here that the article is intended to be reviewed as "new" and also add that to this template (even if it has been a while), I can start the review.   • Article created on 14 July and nominated on 20 July, so new enough at the time and at 7,923 characters when it was nominated, it is long enough. Photos are all ok with the right licenses. The main pic looks good in 100x100px. Article is interesting, well written in a neutral tone and well sourced with inline citations. Excellent formatting of refs! AGF on the off line books. No copyvio detected. QPQ done and checked.
  • Both hooks are short enough and referenced. The original one is a combo from two places in the text, AGF for ALT1 ref since it is from a book. I would recommend ALT1 since it is more straightforward with an international sports team in it, sure to draw a crowd (it caught me!) on an international site like this. The original hook has more twists and turns and may only be really catchy on a national level. But there is a small question about ALT1: In the text it does not actually say that he was the second All Black to be killed, only that he was killed on the same day as Albert Downing (the first one). Since I don't have access to the source I can't see if there were any more All Black casualties that day, or at what times they died. Gruesome comments, I know, but since the hook is written that way, I have to ask. Sorry. Do you think you could go back to the source and se if you can trim the sentence in the text so that it covers the hook better? Best, w.carter-Talk 21:43, 10 August 2015 (UTC)
Ahem, let me rephrase that! I just went to your talk page to deliver a note about my question, and I saw that you had a DYK for Albert Downing on the main page yesterday and that DYK had a hook almost identical to ALT1. So let's go with the original hook, national though it may be, since it hasn't been "used before" and has no issues. Article good to go!
