Harris DeVane
edit... that peanut farmer Harris DeVane attempted to make his NASCAR Winston Cup Series debut in the 1998 NAPA 500?
Created by The Bushranger (talk). Self-nominated at 02:12, 25 December 2017 (UTC).
- Note that I just revamped this entirely, including a all-new, all-singing, all-dancing hook compared to its original submission, because the muse konked me over the head with a second article to add to it. - The Bushranger One ping only 08:17, 25 December 2017 (UTC)
Review:
Disclaimer: I have never reviewed a DYK. I have submitted a DYK and it seems that I have been exempted from QPQ because of lack of prior DYK. However, in the spirit of QPQ, I am starting a review but request assistance from anyone reading this or anyone who is seeking to do a QPQ review.
Criteria Article 1: new: OK!
Criteria Article 2: long enough (1500 characters or more) - OK!

Alternative hook ideas: consider a DYK about Harris DeVane's DYK that he was a peanut farmer, DYK that he was the first winner of a race at the Atlanta Motor Speedway's new racetrack configuration, DYK that he was a winner but failed to qualify in 1999 because of lack of speed. The current hook is, paraphrased, DYK that racecar driver ______ tried to debut at a race. That might not be too exciting if one assumes that all racecar drivers must have a first race in their careers.
Also I did not review the 1998 NAPA 500. Vanguard10 (talk) 04:24, 27 December 2017 (UTC)
- Vanguard10, to check for copyright violations, you can use this useful tool. The reason that the hook is a little more bland than it could be is to try to work two articles (which have both been recently created) into one hook. I agree that peanut farmer to NASCAR driver is interesting, though, so perhaps The Bushranger could also work that into this hook as a second fact about DeVane.
- Also, Vanguard10, since you didn't review the second article, I will: New, in time, long enough, each paragraph has at least one citation, hook fact is present and has an inline citation that checks out, no apparent copyvios, QPQ is done. --Usernameunique (talk) 04:53, 27 December 2017 (UTC)
- That is a good suggestion, and I've added a bit about him being a peanut farmer to the hook. "Winner to DNQ" wouldn't work as that was in two different series, and (as mentioned) I originally had "first winner on new configuration" before the second article jumped into my mind and demanded to be written. - The Bushranger One ping only 04:55, 27 December 2017 (UTC)
- Vanguard10 & The Bushranger, just going to finish up the review. No apparent copyvios in the Harris DeVane article, and the QPQ has been done. The fact about him being a peanut farmer checks out with an inline citation. Only issue is that his article doesn't actually say that the 1998 NAPA 500 was his attempted Winston Cup Series debut; it sort of implies it, but should be made explicit. --Usernameunique (talk) 16:03, 29 December 2017 (UTC)
- @Usernameunique: I've tweaked the wording a bit so that that's clearer. - The Bushranger One ping only 20:12, 29 December 2017 (UTC)
- All set. --Usernameunique (talk) 20:46, 29 December 2017 (UTC)
- Hi, I came by to promote this, but where does the source say it was his NASCAR Winston Cup Series debut? Yoninah (talk) 00:16, 17 January 2018 (UTC)
- @Yoninah: The answer is "where it shows it was the first time he had ever attempted a Cup Series race". However I've also added another reference that includes the explicit wording "debut". - The Bushranger One ping only 00:32, 17 January 2018 (UTC)

- ALT1: ... that over seven hours of rain delays resulted in the 1998 NAPA 500 becoming the first night race held at Atlanta Motor Speedway?
- ALT1 hook refs verified and cited inline. Rest of review above. ALT1 good to go. Yoninah (talk) 22:27, 17 January 2018 (UTC)
