Global Buddhist Network

edit
  • ... that the Global Buddhist Network used to be a Thai television station featuring Buddhist content, but was shut down by the Thai military junta? Source: "On Wednesday, Thai broadcasting authorities ordered the temple to suspend its television channel for 15 days, citing 'inappropriate' content. The channel appeared to be off the air on Thursday." (South China Morning Post, 2016); Source: "Previously, the NBTC ordered the sect to stop its dual-channel, multi-language broadcasts for 30 days, on the dubious ground that the temple broadcasts were calling on disciples to block police raids. ... The latest permanent shutdown order cited alleged incitement by the Dhammakaya stations, creating conflict that was leading to a threat to national security. (Bangkok Post, 2016)
    • ALT1:... that the Global Buddhist Network regularly plays parodies of popular songs, featuring Buddhist content? Many popular Thai and Western songs are adapted and cute cartoon videos are added to them. This is done consistently: recently, the song 'Pid Chedi Nae Non' was adapted from 'Bang-on Ao Tae Non' written by Asanee-Wasan Chotikul. (Prachatai, 2009)
    • ALT2:... that the Global Buddhist Network broadcast a talk about Buddhist principles of karma, stating that Steve Jobs was reborn in a heaven close to his office? Source: "Mr. Jobs has been reincarnated as a celestial warrior-philosopher, the Dhammakaya group said in a special television broadcast, and he’s living in a mystical glass palace hovering above his old office at Apple’s Cupertino, California headquarters."(Wall Street Journal, 2012); Source: "The temple also said the claims about Jobs were intended to teach the law of karma to followers and "not meant to defame or insult any parties." (Asian News International, 2014)

General: Article is new enough and long enough
Policy: Article is sourced, neutral, and free of copyright problems
Hook: Hook has been verified by provided inline citation
QPQ: Done.

Overall: The original hook is fine. epicgenius (talk) 13:18, 2 May 2018 (UTC)

  • Thanks, epicgenius! Do you mean you are passing all three hooks? If you think some of the hooks aren't okay, please let me know why they're not okay, and cross them off the list. Thanks again.--Farang Rak Tham (Talk) 17:11, 2 May 2018 (UTC)
  • @Farang Rak Tham: Well, I checked all three hooks, but since only one of these hooks can be approved, I strongly suggested the first hook. Not that the other two aren't okay, I just believe the first one is more interesting than the other two. I struck the other two out, but if you want, I will reconsider ALT1 and ALT2. epicgenius (talk) 17:16, 2 May 2018 (UTC)
  • Per the reviewing guide, "Review all proposed hooks for the article(s). If you are unable to approve all hooks, be clear about which is/are acceptable and which is/are not. Consider striking through (like this) any rejected hooks to make it clear that they should not be used."
  • If all the hooks are acceptable, but you prefer one hook, you do not need to struck the others out. You simply pass all the hooks and state your preference, as you already did. Cheers!
  • OK, I will note that for later. Thanks. All hooks are approved, but I think ALT0 is the best. epicgenius (talk) 17:41, 2 May 2018 (UTC)
