Georgiana Howard, Countess of Carlisle edit

  • ... that Lady Carlisle said of the pickpockets in Dickens' stories, "I am very sorry for it and am very much shocked at their mode of life, but I own I do not much wish to hear what they say to one another"?

  • New enough, plenty long enough (I'm glad it was!), policy compliant. Copyright? Well, I can't access many of the sources but I can see the article being built up and everything feels fine to me – the tone is consistent. Hook source has to AGF by me. The hook is actually a bit too long, isn't it? 219 characters. But it's a good hook and it would be a shame to spoil it. Does this matter? The rules say it does so I need to query it. No image being proposed. Images in article tagged OK. QPQ OK. Very nice to read, thank you. Thincat (talk) 20:01, 20 May 2015 (UTC)
  • I've trimmed the original hook down to (I think?) 202 characters. So hopefully that works? Thanks for reviewing! Ruby 2010/2013 20:22, 20 May 2015 (UTC)
  • and if someone really insists they can remove "the" from before "pickpockets"! Thincat (talk) 20:44, 20 May 2015 (UTC)
  • Short hooks are really preferable to long, and removing the "the" makes it less meaningful. How about:
  • ALT1: ... that when she was first presented at court, the future Lady Carlisle made a splash in her court costume accentuated by the Cavendish diamonds? Yoninah (talk) 23:42, 20 May 2015 (UTC)
  • Eh, the alt hook isn't really accurate (and "splash" is so subjective). I still hope the original hook will be accepted, but if not, how about this? Ruby 2010/2013 01:35, 21 May 2015 (UTC)
  • ALT2: ... that the Duchess of Devonshire refused to employ a wet nurse for her eldest child Lady Georgiana Cavendish, a decision considered unusual for the era?
  • It's a pity texting wasn't part of a young lady's education in Georgiana's day. I don't know how big a problem 200-character hooks are on the main page. It may depend on what else is there. I'm not so keen on alt1 but alt2 is technically acceptable (source offline as with the original hook, which I still prefer). I'm not sure whether I'm supposed to put another blue tick somewhere. • Thank you, @Ruby2010:, ALT2 is definitely an improvement. Offline hook ref AGF and cited inline. ALT2 good to go. Yoninah (talk) 11:20, 21 May 2015 (UTC)
