Interesting, well-referenced life, offline sources accepted AGF, no copyvio obvious. How about an image, or at least a year? I think lesbian alone would not say what is personal about her, while photographs alone might work. What do you think? --Gerda Arendt (talk) 14:11, 27 February 2018 (UTC)
Thanks for the review, Gerda Arendt. Thoughts, RachelWex? I know you looked into photographs. Do you think we could find one or two? = paul2520 (talk) 14:28, 1 March 2018 (UTC)
Hi Paul2520 (talk) ...I found out that the photos from Schlesinger and Idaho State Historical Society are public domain...however...they are not showing off the most interesting photos in their digital collections. I did add one additional photo to Commons and put it in the article: Emma Jane Gay...RachelWex 15:14, 1 March 2018 (UTC)
Thanks, RachelWex! Maybe one of us could reach out to the Idaho State Historical Society - it would be great to get one of her Nez Perce photos included. I'd say we shouldn't hold off on the DYK though.
Gerda Arendt, how do these look?
ALT2: ... that Emma Jane Gay, known for her photographs of the Nez Perce people in the late 1800s, is identified as the first American lesbian photographer?
ALT3: ... that Emma Jane Gay, known for her photographs of the Nez Perce people in the late 19th century, is identified as the first American lesbian photographer?
ALT4: ... that Emma Jane Gay, who photographed images of domesticity in the late 19th and early 20th centuries (example pictured), is identified as the first American lesbian photographer?

I see what you mean, and agree that domesticity is less interesting. How about her image? If you say yes, please copy the code from another pictured nomination.
I approve ALT3, but will watch. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 16:24, 1 March 2018 (UTC)
I suggest this nom for 8 March, IWD, with her image, or without image. If you succeed with a licensed Nez people pic, and want it for DYK, that would be better a different day. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 16:28, 1 March 2018 (UTC)
March 8 works for me - what do you think RachelWex? How's this for the hook & image of Gay, Gerda Arendt? = paul2520 (talk) 16:43, 1 March 2018 (UTC)
Thanks for all of your help with this, paul2520 (talk) and Gerda Arendt! The domesticity photo we should keep--these types of photos, and not so much Native American photos in general, were Gay's claim to fame--and the best ones of the domesticity photos are not in the free online digital collections. To be clear: the domesticity image should stay in the article, but would not show well in small size. I see problems enough with "her and the camera", therefore asked David who has done miracles before.--Gerda Arendt (talk) 07:32, 2 March 2018 (UTC)

as above, recommended for 8 March. I formatted the image, shortened the caption (the time is in the hook), and formatted (pictured). - Thank you for your willingness to change things! --Gerda Arendt (talk) 19:56, 1 March 2018 (UTC)
David, could you do something about making her better visible, such as crop? --Gerda Arendt (talk) 20:01, 1 March 2018 (UTC)
