Elfego Hernán Monzón Aguirre
edit- ... that Elfego Hernán Monzón Aguirre was President of Guatemala for ten days?
- ALT1:... that ...? Source: "You are strongly encouraged to quote the source text supporting each hook" (and [link] the source, or cite it briefly without using citation templates)
- Reviewed: Pat Loika
- Comment: I have not provided a source here, because virtually every one of those used include the dates that he was president for.
5x expanded by Vanamonde93 (talk). Self-nominated at 15:42, 3 January 2017 (UTC).
- QPQ done. Article has been expanded five-fold within the 7 days before nomination. It's inline cited with reliable sources, they are overwhelmingly off-site, so I cannot check for close paraphrasing/copyvio, but AGF. The article appears neutral in form, though I am not familiar with Guatemalan politics, so I have to AGF for the deeper neutrality. The hook is short enough and interesting, but I would like to see a citation to back it up (the Spanish article has him as president until 1. September which I assume is wrong, but the military coup aspect here, make it seems relevant to get a citation. (At one point in the article, it says two persons were paid; I assume by the CIA, but would be OK to precise in article). Otherwise, good to go. Iselilja (talk) 21:58, 10 January 2017 (UTC)
- @Iselilja: The source is the Lentz source, footnote number 2, in the lede. The entry, which I accessed via google books, says "Elfego Monzon (President June 29 1954 - July 8 1954)..." And these dates are borne out by a number of other sources: indeed I don't believe any of the sources I accessed had any other dates. The Spanish language article is indeed incorrect. - Thank you. Though the "military junta" thing is still bothering me a bit. Looking closer at the Spanish article they don't have him titled as president, but as Jefe de Estado (state leader), and he is not listed among presidents in Guatemala. In the English list of President of Guatemala, Monzón is listed, but not numbered, so the junta leaders don't seem to fully be seen as ordinary presidents, but more like "acting presidents". So, I wonder if the hook in some form or another should reflect this? Iselilja (talk) 23:21, 12 January 2017 (UTC)
- @Iselilja: Yes, he was a military leader, and not an elected president: but as far as I can see the sources do refer to him as president. Would "dictator" be a more accurate term? Probably, but the sources tend not to use it. Would "head of state" work better? Maybe, but it makes the wording really awkward..."President" is not incorrect, because even if he was provisional, he was president. The various lists and other articles are in really bad shape, so I would not recommend using those as the basis for our decision here. Vanamonde (talk) 07:51, 13 January 2017 (UTC)

- @Iselilja: It's been a while: are you willing to sign off on this, or should I ask for another reviewer? There is nothing in the article or the hook not supported by multiple sources. Vanamonde (talk) 05:56, 23 January 2017 (UTC)
- Requesting a new review, as the old reviewer seems to have gone inactive. Vanamonde (talk) 18:35, 29 January 2017 (UTC)
- Iselilja has covered the basics, and the hook seems good to me. Cwmhiraeth (talk) 12:34, 9 February 2017 (UTC)
