Eggplant production in China edit

Best of Best Vegetable purple Eggplant

  • ... that dark eggplant (pictured) skins were historically used by aristocratic women in China to make black dye, which they often used to stain their teeth?

  • Interesting. I made some tweaks. But I have a bit of a problem: the note to "In 2010, China accounted for 58% of total world production which amounted to over 5 million tonnes" does not verify China's percentage, only the 5 million tonnes. I've tried clicking through the FAO database, but that's really not the proper way to do such verification; moreover, that database gives only numbers, not percentages, and the output depends (obviously) on the year selected. I note also that the references in footnotes 14 and 15, though they look different, are to the same database (a formatting problem). I'd like to see a more simple reference for the Chinese production percentages including the years--this isn't for the hook, of course, but it is relevant for the article (in addition, if these percentages were calculated by the author(s), they could include them in the production table for ease of use).

Anyways, everything else checks out--if my suggestions are followed (or the language tweaked, by removing percentages for instance) this should be passed quickly. Drmies (talk) 18:22, 27 September 2012 (UTC)

  • Would the percentage qualify per WP:CALC? Perhaps a note could be included with the reference explaining the calculation. Ryan Vesey 18:33, 27 September 2012 (UTC)
  • You sound like more of an expert than I am--a note with a calculation would be fine, I guess, though I do think that adding percentages to the table makes sense. Drmies (talk) 18:35, 27 September 2012 (UTC)
  • The calculations have been redone, all figures corrected as per table from FAO source, one column added in the table giving percentages and superfluous references of FAO (repeated ones deleted. I hope this meets with above observations of reviewers. Thanks.--Nvvchar. 02:37, 28 September 2012 (UTC)
