@Groupuscule: Cool article, didn't know that dodecatemoria are a thing. Prefer ALT0 and ALT4 for that reason. New, in time, long enough, no copyvios seen, sourced, hook checks out, image is fine. I would think about adding names to the picture in the article (not needed for the DYK picture, would be too small to read), as I have no idea what signs the symbols correspond to. You might also think about rewording the "Calculation" section, which I get lost in:
- "within-sign degree number" sounds awkward, and took a long time to figure out what you meant.
- "(which begins 270° past Aries 0)" is needlessly confusing when you can just say that Capricorn starts at 0°.
- "(474 = 114° past Aries)": again, why Aries?
- The importance of "Cancer is the seventh dodecatemorion of Capricorn, corresponding to Capricorn 15–17.5°" is flipflopped. The point of the calculation exercise was to figure out Capricorn 17 (or 15–17.5°), so that should go first, before you point out that 15–17.5° is the 7th dodecatemorion of Capricorn.
- What happens if you want to calculate the dodecatemorion of Cancer (or any sign) 0? 0*12 = 0.
- This is all the more confusing because I had to keep googling to figure out what symbol goes with what sign, so I could then look at the chart and proceed with the next step. --Usernameunique (talk) 05:24, 28 August 2017 (UTC)
- Hello, thank you for your valuable comments; I will try soon to adjust the article accordingly and create a version of the chart with names. Ideally also another chart could show the mathematical operation in terms of a big red arrow (or something) arcing around the zodiac wheel. Aries 0 is sometimes used as 0° out of the 360° overall (as at Zodiac#Twelve signs) because it's the starting point by convention. However I see that the Calculation section ought to be clearer. Probably it would be good to present the calculation symbolically as well as verbally (as is done in the key papers on this topic) and to distinguish more clearly between the two methods. Oh, and, good point about the zero degree being its own "dodecatemorion" correspondence point. This conclusion seems unavoidable but I don't think I've seen it mentioned elsewhere. groupuscule (talk) 07:58, 28 August 2017 (UTC)
