Claudico edit

  • Comment: A better hook should be available in a couple days when the bot finishing its match against top human players Hook updated

  • The article is long enough, just about recent enough (it looks like it was nominated eight days after creation; I'd be happy to let it slide if everyone else is OK with that), and free of any major policy issues (the article is well written, well referenced, neutral, and free of any blatant copyright violations; note that a couple of the quotations are on the long side, perhaps too long). The hook is short enough (barely), interesting, neutral, and properly referenced with inline citations in the article. I believe that a slightly simpler version of the hook could be preferable; perhaps:
  • ALT1: ... that Claudico is an artificial intelligence computer program that won a heads-up No Limit Hold'em poker championship for computers, but was defeated by a team of humans?
  • Just a thought. Getting back to details, QPQ has been done. If everyone is OK with letting the slight tardiness of the nomination slide, as well as the long quotations, I think that this article will be good to go. Michael Barera (talk) 03:12, 22 May 2015 (UTC)
  • @Michael Barera: you can certainly approve a nomination of 8 days if you wish. I read and edited the article for encyclopedic tone, and while the quotes don't bother me, the whole presentation does. There's a little about the computer program in the lead and history, and the rest of the article reads like a feature article about the match. There is way too much detail here – foreshadowing, quotes, and a wrap-up. IMO this section should be cut in half. How many matches the program has competed in/won should be mentioned in the lead, or at least in the history. Yoninah (talk) 19:31, 2 June 2015 (UTC)
Alright, based partially on Yoninah's comments on the quotations in the article and slight tardiness, I've decided to give this nomination my stamp of approval. Personally, I don't think that this article's substantial focus on Claudico's marquee match against four elite human players is a major issue; for comparison, a large portion of the article Deep Blue (chess computer) is dedicated to its marquee match against Gary Kasparov (despite the existence of a separate article). I know it isn't a perfect article, but I think it fulfills all the DYK criteria. Good to go, in my opinion. Michael Barera (talk) 19:45, 2 June 2015 (UTC)
