Ciro in Armenia edit

Created by 4meter4 (talk) and Smerus (talk). Nominated by 4meter4 (talk) at 16:32, 28 January 2016 (UTC).

No, I didn't know! Interesting, based on good sources, offline source accepted AGF. Long enough, and anyway, what can you say if only fragment's survive. The hook is sourced but on the boring side. How about a focus on the "10 best"? I would not mention a year, because some readers would not look into something that old ;) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:42, 29 January 2016 (UTC)
Let me suggest an ALT: ....that Ciro started with a war in Armenia in 401 BC, but got lost in World War II? --Smerus (talk) 22:02, 29 January 2016 (UTC)
That's cute but I would like to have some hint at female composer, --Gerda Arendt (talk) 22:30, 29 January 2016 (UTC)
I think that sort of personal preference is not a criterion for DYK! I know this part of the editathon, but isn't such an attitude rather matronizing? :-)--Smerus (talk) 08:46, 30 January 2016 (UTC)
(edit conflict, will ignore "matronizing":) The article was written in a quest to promote accomplishments of female musicians, I would prefer a hook which hints at that. I will approve this if we don't find something better, but perhaps we didn't reach the end of your admired inventiveness yet? --Gerda Arendt (talk) 09:00, 30 January 2016 (UTC)
Gerda, DYK decisions go by a simple list of criteria, not by additional ones which adjudicators make up on a WP:ILIKEIT/WP:IDL basis. But as the first suggestion anyway meets your feminist qualification, why not just go for it? On the other hand, if you are interested in getting the message over, I am guessing that more people could follow up the ALT than the other.--Smerus (talk) 13:31, 30 January 2016 (UTC)
I understand that you give up, and I am on vacation, and mourning, and trying to ignore, and trying to write articles on women in music myself, so: little inclined to argue. I
both hooks, may the one select who takes it to prep. Instead of the original, I would simply say:
ALT2: * ... that Maria Teresa Agnesi Pinottini composed the opera Ciro in Armenia?
and instead of the quirky one
ALT3: ....that Ciro in Armenia started with a war in 401 BC, but got lost in World War II?
I will watch for alternatives. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 20:03, 30 January 2016 (UTC)
