  • I'd appreciate it if another reviewer would take a look at this article, but in my opinion the subject lacks notability (the article speaks about swimming events in which Gomez participated, not won), and most of the article's word content is devoted to exact timings of his performances and statements such as the fact that he placed twice in this or that event, and his height and weight--and even a line about what swimming lane he was in for one event. There is no infobox, and few references. Just don't think this article is a good one for wikipedia, let alone for DYK.   • Just don't see it, but again I invite another reviewer to take a look. However, even if subject is notable in someone else's eyes, the article is just not good enough. If the padding is taken out (what lane he swam in, how tall he is and how much he weighs, etc), it is not even long enough for a DYK.   • After trimming of repetition and unnecessary details (I left the height in, as height and weight seem reasonable for a competitive athlete), DYKcheck puts the length at 1201 prose characters, too short for DYK, which requires a minimum of 1500 characters. There will need to be more substantive information added. I'm not sure about notability, but as Gómez (should he be referred to as Gómez Perez in the lede?) did win that 2010 competition, there's a possibility that he is: the question is whether that particular competition is sufficiently important to convey notability on its winners. Qualifying for the Olympics oro Paralympics also seems fairly notable here at DYK, even for athletes who don't make it past the first round. The hook is fine and supported by inline sourcing.   • Back down below 1500. Putting in a county name is sheer padding, as is giving two different names for the same school. Since the heats were run for 32 swimmers, which heat he was in is irrelevant, and might give the impression that he made it into a second round of heats, which was not the case.   • I'm sorry, Thine Antique Pen, but this article just isn't long enough, and you keep adding padding to get it just over the minimum number of characters. If you can't find any more information of substance, maybe this is fated to be an article that remains short of DYK qualifications. BlueMoonset (talk) 23:42, 10 November 2012 (UTC)

Just to add to that, TAP does need to make sure that his DYK submissions are readily comprehensible and not unduly repetitious before nominating them, in future... but I still don't see how that affects the eligibility of this particular article. --Demiurge1000 (talk) 22:14, 17 November 2012 (UTC)
There is still significant repetition of phrases, alternate names for the same event add characters without additional breadth, etc. The article doesn't hold together: facts seem to be there because they could be found, not necessarily because they added necessary information about the character. If I deleted the truly unnecessary ", USA", the article would be at 1496 and demonstrably ineligible. I have restored my rejection icon and the earlier one—let's not rewrite history here—but added a ? icon in yours, as you are questioning my decision (you're free to select another icon if you'd rather, but I thought it was important to give you a canceling icon). Do you care to take over reviewing this? I have expressed my considered judgment—I don't reject articles lightly—and you have decided it should be otherwise. I originally reviewed this and recommended rejection, but asked another reviewer to take a look. Now that there has been discussion and the article supposedly has been redone, I took another look--and definitely repeat my opinion that it is not long enough or substantive enough for a DYK. Whole sentences and phrases are repeated and repeated. Here are some examples. Example 1: His mother Maria competed in the 1976 Summer Olympics in the 200 and 400m freestyle events. -- and then:His mother Maria was an Olympic swimmer, and competed in the 1976 Summer Games in the 400m and 200m freestyle events. Example 2: Gómez participates in the 1500m men's freestyle event,[1][5] and the 800m men's freestyle swimming event -- but then the entire expression "the 1500m men's freestyle event, and the 800m men's freestyle swimming event" is repeated for almost every competition, so this first statement is completely superfluous. Without the padding, the whole article is well below the 1500 character requirement. Just not a DYK article, unfortunately. NearTheZoo (talk) 22:50, 17 November 2012 (UTC)
