Usage
editThis template is for citing United States immigration legal decisions.
Decisions can be found at https://www.justice.gov/eoir/ag-bia-decisions
Citation guidance can be found at https://www.justice.gov/eoir/reference-materials/general/shared-appendices/i
Presumably I&N once was an abbreviation for Immigration and Naturalization, as in the United States Immigration and Naturalization Service. Now it may be an orphan initialism.
Guidance on names
editThere are variations in how names are written in the case files. For example,
- If the full name is recorded
In re Ada Rosa ARTIGAS, Respondent[1]
- Then use only the surname, which is identified by being written in all capital letters. Convert this name to title case, eg "Artigas".
- If only the surname is recorded
MATTER OF BALSILLIE[2]
- Then use the surname. Convert this name to title case, eg "Balsillie".
- If the name is abbreviated
In re Y-L-
In re A-G-
In re R-S-R-[3]- Then use only the first name, in its abbreviated form as given, eg. "Y-L-".
