This template is used to generate a table of tropical cyclone warnings and watches, including for storm surge and flooding, for tropical cyclones in the Australian region. The Australian region encompasses all areas south of the Equator between longitudes 90°E and 160°E. The regional specialised meteorological centres for the region are the Bureau of Meteorology (BOM), the Indonesian Agency for Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics (BMKG), and the Papua New Guinea National Weather Service (PNGNWS). Watches and warnings issued by the BMKG and the PNGNWS are often limited, however, so it may only be possible to obtain information to fill this template for cyclones within the area of responsibility of the BOM. Refer to Tropical Cyclone Advice publications issued by the BOM to obtain information on relevant Tropical Cyclone Warnings and Tropical Cyclone Watches (and storm surge or flooding, if mentioned), and also to the national warnings page if necessary (for flood warnings).

Usage edit

No parameters filled edit

The template without any parameters filled will produce the following:

{{Australian cyclone warnings table}}
No tropical cyclone watches or warnings posted at this time.
The above information may not be accurate, comprehensive or up-to-date. Always consult official meteorological departments, government agencies and emergency services when making decisions.

Tropical Cyclone Warnings and Tropical Cyclone Watches edit

When there are Tropical Cyclone Warnings or Tropical Cyclone Watches active, use the following syntax:

{{Australian cyclone warnings table
| Cyclone Warning=
* List affected locations using bullet points, as explained below:
| Cyclone Watch=
* First by country
** Then by state or territory (for Australia); or province (for Indonesia and Papua New Guinea); or municipality (for East Timor)
*** Then by city, geographical feature, or other stated area
| Source=
Always provide a link to the agency responsible for the cyclone.
}}
Tropical Cyclone Warning
Gale-force winds
expected within 24 hours.
  • List affected locations using bullet points, as explained below:
Tropical Cyclone Watch
Gale-force winds
possible within 48 hours.
  • First by country
    • Then by state or territory (for Australia); or province (for Indonesia and Papua New Guinea); or municipality (for East Timor)
      • Then by city, geographical feature, or other stated area
Source: Always provide a link to the agency responsible for the cyclone.
The above information may not be accurate, comprehensive or up-to-date. Always consult official meteorological departments, government agencies and emergency services when making decisions.

Storm Surge Warnings and Storm Surge Watches edit

Sometimes, the BOM will mention in their Tropical Cyclone Advice publications that a storm tide is possible, or is likely, to affect a particular region. To document such advice, this template accepts the Storm Surge Warning= and Storm Surge Watch= parameters as well.

{{Australian cyclone warnings table
| Storm Surge Warning=
*If storm surge potential is mentioned by an official agency, and any of the following are true:
**The term "Storm Surge Warning" is used
**Storm surge is assessed as "certain", "expected", "probable" or "likely"
**No specific assessment of the likelihood of storm surge is made, but regions of coastline are under a Tropical Cyclone Warning
| Storm Surge Watch=
*If storm surge potential is mentioned by an official agency, and any of the following are true:
**The term "Storm Surge Watch" is used
**Storm surge is assessed as "possible", or terms such as "potential", "may", "might", "could", etc. are used
**No specific assessment of the likelihood of storm surge is made, but regions of coastline are under a Tropical Cyclone Watch
| Source=
Always provide a link to the agency responsible for the cyclone.
}}
Storm Surge Warning
Dangerous inundation from storm surge expected.
  • If storm surge potential is mentioned by an official agency, and any of the following are true:
    • The term "Storm Surge Warning" is used
    • Storm surge is assessed as "certain", "expected", "probable" or "likely"
    • No specific assessment of the likelihood of storm surge is made, but regions of coastline are under a Tropical Cyclone Warning
Storm Surge Watch
Dangerous inundation from storm surge possible.
  • If storm surge potential is mentioned by an official agency, and any of the following are true:
    • The term "Storm Surge Watch" is used
    • Storm surge is assessed as "possible", or terms such as "potential", "may", "might", "could", etc. are used
    • No specific assessment of the likelihood of storm surge is made, but regions of coastline are under a Tropical Cyclone Watch
Source: Always provide a link to the agency responsible for the cyclone.
The above information may not be accurate, comprehensive or up-to-date. Always consult official meteorological departments, government agencies and emergency services when making decisions.

Flood Warnings and Flood Watches edit

Sometimes, the BOM will mention in their Tropical Cyclone Advice publications that flooding is possible, or is likely, to affect a particular region. To document such advice, this template accepts the Flood Warning= and Flood Watch= parameters as well. Note that affected areas will often be listed as regions or as river catchment basins, and more information may be available in dedicated Flood Warnings and Flood Watches on the primary warnings page on the Bureau of Meteorology website. These parameters are intended to be used for flooding impacts distinct from storm-surge-related inundation.

{{Australian cyclone warnings table
| Flood Warning=
*If flooding potential is mentioned by an official agency, and any of the following are true:
**The term "Flood Warning" is used
**Flooding is assessed as "certain", "expected", "probable" or "likely"
**No specific assessment of the likelihood of flooding is made, but land areas are under a Tropical Cyclone Warning
| Flood Watch=
*If flooding potential is mentioned by an official agency, and any of the following are true:
**The terms "Flood Watch" or "Initial Flood Watch" are used
**Flooding is assessed as "possible", or terms such as "potential", "may", "might", etc. are used
**No specific assessment of the likelihood of flooding is made, but land areas are under a Tropical Cyclone Watch

    • The term "Flood Warning" is used
    • Flooding is assessed as "certain", "expected", "probable" or "likely"
    • No specific assessment of the likelihood of flooding is made, but land areas are under a Tropical Cyclone Warning
Flood Watch
Dangerous flooding from rain or river rise possible.
  • If flooding potential is mentioned by an official agency, and any of the following are true:
    • The terms "Flood Watch" or "Initial Flood Watch" are used
    • Flooding is assessed as "possible", or terms such as "potential", "may", "might", etc. are used

Combining Warnings and Watches edit

Tropical Cyclone Warnings, Tropical Cyclone Watches, Storm Surge Warnings, Storm Surge Watches, Flood Warnings and Flood Watches and the source of the information can all be combined into a single table.
