Heavy rewording edit

I made some of that, there should be some eyes to see if it helps to keep the page... -Mardus 16:59, 31 May 2006 (UTC)Reply

Categories edit

I'm not sure that births and deaths categories are appropriate here - we use the categories to track articles about people, which this is not. Any opinions? Zocky | picture popups 03:28, 29 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

Well, the categories do read "People born in..." and "People who died in...". I suppose the cats should go. —Bunchofgrapes (talk) 03:34, 29 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

The Giraffe arrived in Paris on June 30, 1827. The newspapers said that she was 2 years old. 1).

Term Zarafa edit

a) Zarafa: famous giraffe b) Zarafa: kind of mail client for Linux server, see www.zarafa.com. How knows more about this mail client and is able to set up an article? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 213.197.11.229 (talk) 16:02, 5 December 2006 (UTC).Reply

--- Comment from someone else: About the name Zarafa ---

I am sorry to say that I doubt that the girafe of Charles X was named "Zarafa" I am working on that topic and never found that name associated with her. In fact it is Mister Michael Allin in his introduction to his book says: "Let us call her Zarafa", meaning that He created that name but, to my knowledge and research, it is not historical. And since, other authors have assumed that it was her name. So, this needs to be proof!

Zarafa redirect edit

Having Zarafa redirect to here just because of speculation that this was the name of a gift, is kind of lame. Zarafa should be redirecting to Zarafa (software), with a {{for}} template at the top of that page. This situation is similar to Ubuntu, which was originally linked to the Ubuntu (philosophy) article, except that the speculative name of a gift giraffe is even more obscure to the general population. --24.31.187.238 (talk) 20:18, 20 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

Giraffe given to Charles X of France by Muhammad Ali of EgyptZarafa (Charles X's giraffe) – Mainly common sense (per WP:BRAIN). The WP:COMMONNAME for this animal is "Zarafa" (Google Books shows 5,080 finds related to this giraffe. For historical reasons, it seems acceptable to have it specifically associated with Charles X, and Google Books again shows that this animal was also known as "Charles X's giraffe" (see [1]).-- MarshalN20 | Talk 14:48, 30 July 2013 (UTC)Reply

  • A step in the right direction, but we might as well go all the way and name is Zarafa (giraffe). Article titles should be concise, so the proposed title would only be necessary if we had other articles on giraffes named Zarafa. Trying to fit too much information into a title is what gave us the current name, which is rather abominable. --BDD (talk) 16:23, 30 July 2013 (UTC)Reply
Support for Zarafa (giraffe) (BDD's proposal). That is reasonable too. I added the Charles X part mainly due to the last discussion over the title. However, your more concise title is better.--MarshalN20 | Talk 16:55, 30 July 2013 (UTC)Reply

Support move to Zarafa (giraffe). The current title is ridiculous. Zarcadia (talk) 21:29, 30 July 2013 (UTC)Reply

Main image edit

I believe the article's top image (head only) should be replaced by this illustration (the actual animal) by Nicolas Huet the Younger.
