The book

This article should contain more info about the book, which was controversial at the time.

Yes and no. It's true that it would be good to see a paragraph on parallels and divergences with the book, but at the same time, an article for the book does exist, and I don't think it would be pertinent to merge both articles - it would be more relevant to improve both. I think regarding the movie, there is still a lot to do. While it wasn't a highly commercial success, there have been quite a lot of articles written about it, be it reviews or interviews with the actors, so plenty of sources to work from. Penis

I removed "uncircumcised" as it does not seem relevant given the context. As Ewan McGregor is a Scotsman, and the setting of the film is 1950s Glasgow, it would be highly unusual and shocking if his penis was circumcised. 217.155.20.163 23:58, 9 March 2007 (UTC)

Characterisation of 'rape' scene

I've watched this film a couple of times and my assumption was that Cathie and Joe shared some kind of rough sex/humiliation fetish, and so the scene with the custard/humiliation/aggressive sex is part of this. Indeed the presentation of this scene is a little peculiar if it was intended to be non-consensually abusive. Joe makes custard for no apparent reason? She undresses down directly before the confected argument? She also appears to have quite happily climaxed and otherwise not resisted during the scene. Similarly, once Joe returns, the apartment is cleaned up and they hug quite naturally in bed, as if this is a regular conclusion of their activities. 145.224.65.172 (talk) 13:07, 31 January 2023 (UTC)
