It appears that the older Genus names include

Gymnoris Hodgson, 1844.
Gymnornis, G. R. Gray 1855.
Gymnorhis, Agass. (lapsus)
Xanthodira, Sundevall. 1850.
Xanthodina, Bp. 1850.

Reliable sources for taxonomy include the Nomenclator Zoologicus and the Richmond Index and Gymornis is not in these. Shyamal (talk) 02:05, 16 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

Thanks. The Collins Bird Guide has Gymornis – but on closer inspection I think that must be a typo. Gymn (naked) + ornis (bird) would look the most likely, assuming it is derived from Greek - but Gymnoris certainly seems to have precedence on its side (and far more Google hits!).
