Count of Compulsury Years ?
editYears Seven is stated, in Australia, as being the 8th compulsory year - whilst Year Six is stated as being only thé 6th compulsory year. In other words children must do a compulsory year after leaving Primary School and before starting Secondary School, without ageing, presumably by some kind of miracle on Christmas Day. If I am not mistaken, the first year of Primary School, officially known as Preperatory Class but universally referred to as Preps (or else Bubs, as un Babies', by the children), is NOT compulsory although treated as such with few exceptions. Real compulsory Primary School starts as Year One (formerly First Grade) and is this is the normal class level for 6 year old children (legal compulsory schooling age). Preps serves to assure adequate "pre-school" base level for all children. Since access to pre-school facilities is neither compulsory nor garanteed, Preps is not very academic but rather focuses on social interaction, class conduct and very basic writing, drawing and counting skills. I believe that Year Seven through Year Twelve, in Australia (formerly First Form through Sixth Form), should be noted as the 7th through 12th compulsory years, and that Preps should be documented as the non-compulsory, but usual, starting class in Primary School. In accordance with Wikipedia ethics, documented source material will be required (even when facts are known to be correct). Neil Dewhurst, Lyon, France. (talk) 10:10, 2 January 2018 (UTC)

editI have reverted the dates in the table to refer to UK ages to maintain consistency with other year group articles. I have also started a discussion at the schools WikiProject about how best to move forward with articles of this sort. Please do contribute. Tafkam (talk) 11:05, 13 January 2008 (UTC)
