Talk:Yeşilırmak (river)

Move edit

Let's move this article to Yeşilırmak River. The current name (Yeşil River) is naïve and misleading. In Turkish, Yeşilırmak is one name; it's non-analysable. If necessary, one speaks of the Yeşilırmak Nehri (nehir being the normal word for river). Yeşilırmak River is the equivalent. Yeşil, by the bye, is the ordinary Turkish word for ‘green’, so a real anglicization would be Green River. But in fact nobody uses that name to refer to this river. I mean, imagine if the German Wikipedia translated all the towns named Greenville as *Greenstadt: *Yeşil River is equally absurd. Q·L·1968 00:00, 10 September 2009 (UTC)Reply

Having heard no objections, I have made the move. Q·L·1968 21:16, 18 September 2009 (UTC)Reply
