Bonilla is a frequent contributor to mainstream media outlets such as The Washington Post and The Nation. She is a frequent guest on National Public Radio and television news programs such as Democracy Now!, and publishes a monthly column titled “En vaivén” in the Puerto Rican newspaper El Nuevo Día.
